sooo, after all this battery chat I went to start my car after work today and low and behold I hear the typical low battery starter buzz. It sounded a little more faint than the typical buzz so I wasn't sure what it was.

I was able to get it started (although it cranked slowly) I'm assuming the fuel from each unsuccessful start primed it enough to start on a very slow crank. After driving 10 mins I turned off the car and then started it again with no issue or slow crank. After a 30 mins I went to start the car and it again buzzed and then slow cranked.

Replaced the battery and now it crank faster than it ever has in about 2 years. $120 w/ taxes for the same size battery from Canadian Tire after the $20 I received from returning the original.

I can't complain the OEM battery got me through 7 and a half years and some nasty winters and never left me stranded. Too bad you can't purchase the OEM batteries for the same amount as an aftermarket...

I'm at 206k miles on my original battery. No problems, I put on 40k a year, and when it dies, I will go with a Optima.

I had an Optima (red top) in my 02 Celica and it was great.....particularity its cold cranking power compared to the stock battery.

BTW, the Optima and the Auto Zone's "Duralast" battery are both made by the same company ..."Johnson Controls" and the" Duralast" is reported to be very good also. The Optima is better of course.

Replaced after 6 years

Just replaced battery today on a 2010 2-Dr Yaris Hartchback. I only have 17,000 miles on it but during an oil change it was tested and it only had 20% charge, so decided to replace it with a Delco. I could probably run the battery for another year but don't want the headache.

Mine was only about 4 years old when it died.

Just a thought, can you add a poll here? Would be interesting to see the years of all members batteries in graphic form.

Hey tmontague,
so what size battery did you get from CT? did you try the dealership? wonder what brand they carry if not Pan or FB?

95k miles and 8 trouble free years. Replaced it with a $55 Interstate 51R battery from Costco.

In another post I described replacing the battery on my 09 after 7 1/4 years and 44000 miles earlier this year....

I went with the cheapest NAPA replacement battery which was less than $99.

8-Year FB Batt Replaced

So finally Ive decided to replace the FB battery, keep losing radio preset stations.

I hooked up a DVM to the batt terminals it read 12.6V at rest and when I cranked the starter, the voltage dropped to 8.4V. I remember CTScott mentioned somewhere anything below 10V indicates problem.

While I was in Detroit for a visit, I've decided to get this 24F 585CCA from Walmart for $48.88, at this price I'll be happy if it last 3 yrs.
The size fits well in the Yaris, the height and depth is perfect match, the width is about 1/2 inch longer, as you can see in the photo, it fits!

I looked at the 35 and 26 sizes, the height were too tall, the hold down bracket wont work without mod.

That's too cheap to be true!

I hope it's good.

Looks like it has hard to remove covers to add water.

That's funny.. I put a 35 in my sedan without any modifications. Walmart Canada sells the ever start brand, and the bracket drop below like the original battery.

Just another data point: I bought my 07 Yaris used. It was first sold in July 2006. I bought it around November 2010. Took it in for squeaking noise (turned out to be a belt) at Canadian Tire, and they told me the battery is almost dead. So I agreed to replace the OEM battery. That happened in April 2013, with 92000 km on the car. The replacement was MotoMaster Eliminator. $110 for the battery, and $50 for installation. Pus HST. All in Canadian Dollars. So far, the Eliminator seemed to be fine. A bit of corrosion on the terminals, but still starts at coldest days. I've not needed to jump start the car since I bought it. Yes, it comes with a sticker on the invoice, which states 4 year total replacement/roadside boost, and 10 year total warranty.

So I probably replaced the OEM battery pre-maturely, but we live and learn. Plan to hold onto the battery sticker and make the warranty claim when battery finally dies. Let's see how good Crappy Tire is with battery warranties. Read much negative about them. I'm just too lazy to find an independent shop, and too cheap to go to dealership.

10years? I haven't seen this long warranty for Canadian tire batteries in a while. Anyways, the last couple years are pro-rated anyways, so you still need to pay a fee.

Also, the replacement battery does not carry full warranty. Only what's left of your first or 90days/1year I forgot.

Just read up on the warranty card of you r battery, you will find all the details

My 2004 Toyota Tacoma has the original battery but it forms a lot of rubbish around the terminals every months. currently at 150k miles

My 2014 Yaris had 20k miles on it and the battery died because Toyota sold it to me with a loose belt, so it wasn't charging on cold starts.

Seven years from the OEM Panasonic in my 2007 Yaris Sedan. It wasn't quite dead yet but I knew on the next very cold day it wouldn't start the car.

Replaced it with a Napa Legend 7535. Great battery, made in Pennsylvania.

Try coating the terminals with wheel bearing grease.
