40000 mile maintenance bogus?
I have a 2007 Yaris, for which I received a letter in the mail saying I should be at around 40,000 miles (which I just passed) and should take it in for maintenance.
I thought it was 30 and 60k. Is this just the dealership trying to make some extra money? If NOT, how much does a 40k maintenance cost? |

Yes.
Here's a scanned image of the letter (front and back):
I just took my Yaris to get an oil change/minor maintenance on December 31 and they did a ton of stuff already: Change Oil, Change Oil Filter, Check Air Filter, Check Wiper Blades, Vacuum Floors, Wash Exterior Windows, Lubricate Chassis, Fill Transmission/Transaxle, Fill Differential Fluid, Fill Power Steering Fluid, Fill Windshield Washer Fluid, Fill Battery Water, Inflate Tires To Pressure, Check Coolant Reservoir, Check Brake Fluid Level, Serpentine Belt, Check Engine Oil On Arrival, Exterior Light Check So this letter from the dealer is definitely bogus?? |

You sure do not need the timing belt change.. their rear page is different from what my dealer recommended for my yaris
At 60 k km as far as I can remember the gear box needs new oil (manual transmission) |

there are multiple different scheduled maintenance programs. Dealers will try to get you to come in and spend as much money as possible of course, that is kinda why they are in business. You can have scheduled maintenance intervals of anywhere from 5k miles to 25k miles. Toyota dealers have different recommendations and what to do for whatever you want and however frequently you want to go in.

Manual transmissions used to have oil change intervals every 30,000 miles. Im not sure what they are now but as I remember they are longer. I changed the oil in my ECHOs manual transmission at 30k but that probably not necessary. They also used to have an engine oil change at 600 miles but no longer. It was so cheap I did my ECHO at 600 miles.
Read your owners manual the intervals for the necessary maintenance is right in there. That is the bible. You definately do not need to be doing things more often than it says in the OM. If the dealer is telling you any different they are crooked. Before you do anything they recommend check back with us first!
