30k + The rubber under the front bumper

Hi everybody,

First of all congratulations and thanks to all the members for this great forum. Two weeks ago I purchased a used 2008 Yaris Sedan (4spd-auto) at 28k miles.

The dealer sticker on the car says 29500 for the next maintenance instead of 30k. Before buying the car I took it to the same Toyota dealer who was doing the maintenance work for this car since its purchase. He inspected and said "It is perfect but just don't forget the 30k maintenance" and when asked he said it is going to cost 350+tax something. It doesn't really make sense since 30k maintenance according to the manual just includes oil+oil filter+air filter changes with tire rotation.

I know tire rotation can be done for free in some places and oil change for about 25$ for conventional oil. My car has synthetic so I am not perfectly sure about it.

The main question could be : Do I have to go to a Toyota Dealer for the maintenance to keep my car under warranty? What if I get the maintenance work done in different places but keep the receipts?

And also today I noticed that the rubber under the front bumper ( I assume that is called a wind deflector but I am an aerospace engineer myself and I don't really think it makes a big difference in the drag force on the car unless it is hanging down like it is now :) ) has lost two of its screws in the middle and I think I can glue it or tape it since it has ripped of the screws with the holes. Do you have any suggestions/advices/warnings?

Thanks for your replies!!!

i just went in (Toyota dealer) for my 15k service today on mine that i bought in February, they wanted $300 for the service, so i talked them down to 60 for an oil change, rotate, and inspection. That is high, considering their oil changes are $20. They wanted to put nitrogen in the tires, do an alignment, ect. The mechanic said the service guys are paid on commission, so that explains the junk he wanted to sell me. I normally just get an oil change at the dealer, but the only reason I do is because its the cheapest place in town for an oil change, go figure. I would do it myself, but for $20, its not worth the time nor effort. I just do a rotate myself normally.

I dont think location of oil changes will bother your warranty as long as you have them done, i would keep receipts for proof, just in case

suggestions is that alignement should be done every year or 24k km... you don't need to do it if you feel your car is still driving straight.

I just hit 30K too, and nobody touches my car but me, 6 oil changes so far and I'm running synthetic now!

Tire rotation do it my self as well, like every thing else.

U.S. ones normally come without a cabin air filter. You want one, it's up to you to install it.

Is the cabin filter needed?
Any benefit to the car? or just the human in the car?

well, it adds weight to the car, so i guess it cannot be good AT ALL for the car?

seriously, you don't want all the crap coming into the cabin.. but some people swear by not having one. :s
