Finally something broke
The first thing outside scheduled maintenance is the knob that controls which way the heat comes out of which vent,it seems to have become disconnected from whatever it was connected to, after 220K thats not bad reliability.
Any one else have this problem or know how fix it? Thanks Its the one on the upper right with the A/C button in the middle= http://0.tqn.com/d/cars/1/S/B/Y/ag_0..._s_ac3dial.jpg

Check under the dash for the cable connected to the air box. I think I've heard of it coming disconnected.

The cable assembly can be easily removed from the control knob, the issue is finding a way to disconnect it from the hvac box deeper inside the dash with minimal disassemble.. Anyone out there has any suggestion(s) for us? Sent from my Z30 using Tapatalk |

Thanks for the pics CB. its clearly a job thats beyond my capabilities and if taken to a mechanic looks expensive to repair. fortunately the position seems to have locked in the defrost/ foot position,i think i can live with it.

Looks like a bomb exploded but I think if you search for a procedure youll find its not as hard as it looks.

Yes it will cycle on and off, not sure of the frequency but that defrost/ foot position has been my basic default setting since i bought the car new, doesnt seem to be a problem.

That's what I thought I remember reading. Thanks for confirming.
I'm sort of the same way in that I'm almost always running the AC. |

Hi Scott...
Based on your experience, is there enough room where the other end of the defroster damper control connects too between the haves of the HVAC body(see pic) to unsnap the control to remove it with our having to take maybe the one half(right side) apart? And if so, do you know where the snap legs are located on the end so I can get a good idea if I can reach inside and press the hold to un latch the control end? |

Hey all.. Wanted to see if anyone has been able to replace the Defroster Damper Control cable assembly with out having to take apart the entire dash and top dash cover??

Mine does this every 1-2 years. Just reattach it, takes like 10 minutes. Haven’t figured a permanent fix yet.
