The one you have pictured can be held on with 3M tape only.

it can, but if you look at the little covers underneath; there are brackets in there that can be installed by drilling a hole and using included plastic inserts. (i used metal threaded inserts and a bolt) also, i believe there are 2 plastic arrow clips on the spoiler that will have to be removed if you don't drill alignment holes. (if installed from factory)

even when therebare tabs underneath as seen in the pic? the reason i asked is because the cs rep told me that there is no "special" drilling required.

Factory installed would be drilled. I'm saying, for that particular spoiler, 3M tape would do the job. It's a scary thing to take a drill to your body panels.

you don't have to. the covers clip into place. they install the bracket for safety, but the drilling is easy;
-hand tighten nuts on bracket, spoiler side
-hold spoiler in place where it is live forever
-mark holes with marker
-remove spoiler and drill holes
-put tape on the drill bit at 5mm if you are scared of drilling too deep.
-use touch up paint around bare metal

it's super easy to do, but if you use just the tape, make sure to use some really good stuff, like VHB 3m
