A/C quirk

Ive had a odd occurrence with my a/c. Twice now the a/c has stopped blowing cold air while sitting in traffic and picked right back when i started moving. Both times at the same point on my commute home. Low refrigerant maybe?

If you are sitting still it may either be that the electrical drain on the system is too much, so the AC ECU shuts off the compressor (it has an input from the alternator that tells it if the alternator is putting out sufficient power) or that the condensor is plugged, so with so little airflow you do not get enough heat exchange.

A/C

Checking the alternator is easy enough.I would have expected other issues if it was going bad.

It is not necessarily going bad. It could be that the battery is on its way out and the alternator has trouble keeping it up as well as powering things like the AC when the engine is at idle (where the alt is putting out about 30% of its capacity).

I'd check to make sure there isn't debris in between the rad and condenser.
