dont know about your model, but I believe our fuel gauge is controlled directly from the fuel level gauge in the tank.

If you've got the digital gauge with the LCD bars as most of us do, it's pretty much got to be a bad sensor in the tank.

I've had the tank unit replaced twice now, and it's gone again. DO NOT depend on the tank gauge! Use your trip odo, and you won't be left stranded out there...

When the sender is disconnected (i.e. if the fuse was popped), the bottom bar flashes rapidly, like you are about to run out. The fuel gauge sender is just a rheostat that is monitored by the combination meter. You may want to pull it out and check the sender rheostat for build-up from impurities in the fuel.

When I pulled Crashy's fuel tank off to do some frame welding, I pulled the sender out of the tank to check it out. Here are some pictures of it:

yeah i never trust fuel gauges, the last bar starts blinking, i should have 1.4 or something gallons, then drops to 1.1 or something when fast blinking, but i fill up when it starts blinking, i never break 10gals at pump. the bars drop too fast i guess. better to be safe than sorry and fill up when it blinks tho.
