Air Filter

Had anyone had an issue replacing the air filter in an 08 Yaris? I opened it up, replaced with a Fram, and could not get it closed again. It looks like the edges pinch. I looked at the old one and the edges looked pinched also. I feel like it should go in easy, what am I missing?

Thanks in advance.

I put one in the old Echo and had a devil of a time getting the box closed.

^oh yeah, I thought I had gotten the wrong filter like 3 times once.

one of them (may have been a fram) had one edge that stuck out more that was not like the original.

You have to make sure the left side of the box locks into the tabs and then lower the right side of the box.

Another tip: place the filter in the upper half of the airbox first then bring the halves together. I found this to be much easier to avoid pinching.

I put in a Wix, fit perfect, no problems - but I am a mechanic. The new filter seemed more restricted than the dirty one though!

Not all corners are the same-three are rounded and one is pointed. At least the factory one is-that was the only thing I figured out that made the top go back on right. If I remember correct the pointed corner goes in the left upper corner of the air box-the corner that's the hardest to see when holding up the cover and trying to put an airfilter in at the same time.

one corner of the filter is square , this goes in the upper left hand corner of the base of the air filter box . Then keep right side of upper box at about 40 degree angle and slip tabs of cover into slots of base . This is somewhat tricky . Make sure tabs are all the way in the slots for air tight fit . Hope I explained this ok , hard to put in words . GOOD LUCK .

My Beck Arnley filter fit like OEM, looks like it should flow better than the OEM egg carton

Note to self: they are talking about air filter not cabin filter.

Thanks all - does the sharp corner still pinch if I put it in the back-left?

First: What does it look like, pleated paper instead of molded polyester fiber? I'm thinbking my wix, which looks like OEM doesnt flow too well - been having subtle performance issues ever since that wix air filter went in. It looked good though
