225/50R17!! Oh my freakin' god!!

You can't put any size of tire you want on a car man! You have to respect the overall diameter of your stock wheel, that's mean, if you put bigger wheels, you must use slimmer tires to get the same overall diameter what your stock wheels. If you don't put the right tire size and get a bigger overall diameter more than 3%, all your gauges will be mistaken and your ECU will also get bad measurements who will result in major problems.

- For stock 175/65R14, you must use 205/35R17.

- For stock 185/60R15, you must use 205/40R17.

That does seem a little big. Here is one of the best tire calculators that I have seen. If there are any questions that you have about the sizes this site can help ya out. Plug in the old size and the new size and it tells you the differences.

225/50R17 is 12.6% too big for your car, it's just only a small difference. Ask any tires shop or your deal, they will be clear : ***NEVER*** put bigger tires over 3% because you are looking for BIG troubles.

SimmZ,
any dealer or repair shop or tire shop for that matter will give you the easiest pile of crap they can find. Sure going outragously huge will have effects whether detrimental or not but unless your putting 20's with lowering springs on your ride you should only have guage readout differences. Your wheel speed sensors will be out slightly but do a mph difference between stock and 17+ not much to worry about. Toyota uses 14" to 18" wheels on the yaris.
Shops will give you whats written in the shop manuals cause most of them cant be bothered to see what sizes will fit. A billion honda owners will say the same thing.

Sorry, but this is false.

No matter which size of wheels you use from 14" to 20" if you respect the overall diameter of your stock wheels. If your stock wheel is 14", then you have stock tires sidewall of 4", it's mean you have overall diameter of 22". If you want to use 17", you have to use tire with 2.5" of sidewall to obtain your 22" overall diameter. If you want to use 20", you have to find tires with 1" sidewall (dunno if it exist), and ect...

You have to respect this overall size because of your wheels speed sensor who provide very important informations to your ECU and your gauges. If you respect your overall size by 3% (3% bigger or 3% smaller) it doesn't really matter. But this guy is running 12.6% too much big tires for his car what is VERY BAD.

Hey! your asking for trouble and If you got ABS brake it will be worse. I almost made the same mistake but a tire dealer gave me the scoops on what can happen if you go oversize. Right now your 8+% over size
Check out this link! I got my info on tire size just input your tire size and input tire size your want if will give the percentage differents and also warn if your choose a oversize tire

Yeah, you better be careful. I put bigger tires on my other ride. This caused my speedo to be WAY off and I get about 8 mpg. It also caused all these scratches and dents on the sides. My fender wells are hacked, my gas tank is dented up and I have all this extra weight to haul around......Oh wait! The scratches are from bushes and the dents are from rocks and the weight is from the all the spare parts I carry when off roading in mountains....

just depends... i heard from a friend who works at honda, that most newer cars have ecus that will automatically recalculate your guages and braking systems with aftermarket tire/wheel setups. I may be throwing useless info out there but my brothers running about two and a half inches too big on his SI and his guages havn't had a problem. Toyota may be different but they seem to always be right behind Honda if not in front of them with most of their electronics. And for what I know about abs systems... the only way you can mess them up dramatically is if your running a stagger, or bigger tires in the rear than in the front. Actually I know for a fact that if you stagger your tire sizes that most if not all of your ecus and guages will be messed up. Knowing what I've seen so far the Yaris will pull up with a CEL if you stagger the way the got sensors running through the thing. So dont be too discouraged, again I may be wrong, but try running on what you have for a while, maybe go to a parking lot and make sure your abs works fine, if you have it.
