Intermittent failure of power locks

My son tells me that his passenger door sometimes fails to lock and/or unlock when he uses either the key fob or the power lock button on the driver's door. He has a 2009 Yaris Sedan that he bought new in March 2009.

Anyone hearing of such problems? Any TSBs out there that anyone knows of?

Tom

does it work consistently with the inside switches ?

this is the second button press where the problem occurs ?
or is it programmed to open all on one press ?

the computer can be reprogrammed on the unlock sequence from a keyfob,
maybe it needs to be reprogrammed.

probably a mechanical issue in one of the relays. Some times relays will get stuck.

It sometimes doesn't respond to either the key fob or to the lock/unlock button on the driver's door.

Thanks to all for your replies.

the power door ecu is the issue.

Hitting things with hammers from my experience usually breaks them than more than fixes them.

I called the dealer, and the bumper to bumper warranty is good for 3 yrs/36,000. I'll just tell my son to take it in and let them fix it.

RELAY.... actuators are not designed for a push function and a pull function. They only know "move"... multiple relays are used to get the whole push/pull function. When one relay is on, the other is off, each time a relay switches to on, the actuator moves... do a google search for relay wiring for door locks and you'll find a diagram of what i'm talking about.

the actuator could be bad... but I doubt it.
