2007 Yaris flickering Battery Light

Hey guys, hoping someone can help me. I have a 2007 Yaris sedan with 120k miles. I have had the alternator replaced and serpentine belt (2012). I had the water pump go a year ago, replaced that.

No performance issues right now, but my battery light keeps flickering. Battery was replaced within the last year as well.

The flickering battery light is typically caused by the voltage regulator within the alternator failing. Checking the voltage with the engine running is the way to confirm it.

The airbag light came on as well, both stayed on for a min and shut off. Would that be the same issue?

Quite possibly. The SRS ECU does not like to see big fluctuations in voltage.

Thanks! This wouldn't cause the airbag to blow would it?

It should not. The airbag system is designed with safeguards to prevent accidental deployment.

My battery light began flickering then it stayed on.
Checked every thing and all was fine.
I went and bought a used alternator and was going to replace it.
I started trouble shooting another issue and thanks to Scott found a blown
fuse. .
Also the blades on it were corroded. Replaced it and all has been fine since.

Was that the ALT-S fuse?

Also, another thing to check is if one of the battery terminal connections is loose or corroded.

I've been experiencing the exact same issues as the original poster. I have a 2007 Yaris sedan.

It started with the battery light flickering intermittently especially after a rainfall wondering if the moisture was affecting the voltage regulator. I tested the alternator with multi-meter and the output seemed ok. After driving awhile the battery light would eventually turn off.

Now the battery light started flickering again and also the dash airbag light started to come on for a few mins while driving then it would turn off for a bit and then on again, same goes for the battery light.

I was able to get a 2014 alternator from a junkyard and installed it. It appears to be working fine I connected the multimeter to the terminals prior to starting the first time. The battery light no longer flickers.

One thing I do notice as I've been running errands all day every time I start the vehicle, the airbag light stays on a few seconds longer than the usual warning lights go out if that makes any sense? Like there's a delay for it to recognize the correct voltage or something and then it turns off. It hasn't lit up after the vehicle has been running, wondering if there's something else I should look into?

Check the battery connections first. Then do a battery load test and check the voltage on the car with the engine running. Should be between 13.7-14.5v.

yes I did the load test on the first start after I installed the replacement alternator and it's fine.

I see I'm not alone
purchased my 2007 in spring of 2006 , that's right ,
the 2007's came out early , in the summer of 2007 my
alternator light started flickering , I went to the dealer and
unfortunately for me , there was no electricity that day at the
dealer , so nothing was recorded in the Toyota system , the
guy at the counter told me " early release 2007 " had a
faulty regulator Inside the alternator , the ECU looks for
charging between X and Y values, and the regulator goes
outside those 2 parameters , explaining why the dash displays
a error , the wrong parameters of the regulator still does the
job perfectly , and I was told as long as it only flickers , and
not go FULL-ON I would be fine , if it bothered me I could
come back and they would replace the faulty part .
2 years later I started getting the flickering more often
and accompanied with the air bag light some times ,
so I went back to the dealer ......they told me the warranty
was over , and they did not have anything in the system about me
coming to see them about this ..
..
screwed ,,,I wrote a letter to Toyota on 2009 and they washed their hands of
the whole deal , see dealer they said , and dealer said " you don't even
make us do the oïl changes on your car , why should we help you " ...finger...
..
,,, fast forward to 2019 , at 200,000 km and I am
still on the original alternator , flickering 95% of the time but
still working , just that when flickering the daylight running
headlight do not come on ,unless I turn on the light manually ,
if flickering stops light come on , and stay on if flickering resumes.
..
Only thing that bugs me is at night , I can clearly see the intensity
of the headlight change at every flickering of my Christmas tree dash
and people ahead of me are surely wondering why I am flashing them
, and also , no more high beams , when pulling headlight lever
to flash low to high , I get low to OFF .
as you can see I don't care much about the flickering light ...
this is my back-up car , so least money spent on it .
