2009 Black 3-Door HB

Hey everyone!!!

New here on this site. Been around a few months reading up info posted on the site and i must say it's been a great read. Been away from playing with cars for 18 years now, other things took importance like kids. My youngest are 18 this spring so it's time to scratch that itch and tune up a car and play. My other vehicle at the moment is a 1999 GMC Suburban, a killer on gas but a must to pull my boat, etc...

So far my Yaris is stock, haven't touched it "YET"!!! Spring is delayed here this year with still lot's of snow so I took my time shopping for summer wheels/tires. Going with Konig Helium 16 x 7 +40 (Bronze) wheels at 14lbs each. Tires not sure which brand/model but size will be 205/45ZR16. Lowering the car with springs only, no coil overs because it's not necessary if you know the ride height your going for. Me it will be lowered 1.5" (Approx.). Front torsion bar is staying stock, no need to touch it but a rear torsion bar will be added. Also need to do tie-bars. This will be step one, I'll start in two weeks if not later. The snow is incredible this year, still looks like January here.

I'll post a few pictures tomorrow of the car as is right now.

John

As I bought it mid January.

Found these from a local guy, DAI tarmac White 16 x 7 used but in imaculate new condition with tires already mounted 205/45R16. Tires have one summers worth thread left so good to start. no clue yet on tire brand but for $350 all four mags and tires I'm not too picky right now. Going in a few hours to pick them up.

Ordering my lowering springs tonight and the rear torsion bar. The fun begins. ;)

Pics from when I got the car in mid January 2014. Thank god the winter is over even if I do like snow for winter sports.

Picked up a set of used wheels with tires on them. Still good to start the summer season before I need to change the tires.

Wheels 16" x 7" +38 offset
Tires 205/45R16

Finally got to change the springs after I made a spring compressor. It's a 1.5" drop but needs to settle a few weeks, already looks better. Wheels are used with tires that have a few months left of life in them. The wheels have some minor side rub but I'll be redoing them when it's time to replace the tires. Stitched a leather steering wrap and added my pedals this pas week.

Next on my to do list the next few weeks, fabricate tie-Bars for the front and rear shock towers and lower tie-bars as well.

I'll replace later with better quality pics.

More parts coming in, got the sway bar and filter yesterday. Put it on in 30 min. today and oh what a difference, a totally different car. :) Lowered 1.5", springs have settled. Next, time to weld together the exhaust system.

Looking good!

Now you just need to lose that Boulevard Toyota decal on the back...

Thanks!!!

Oh all the stickers are gone using Goo Off. :D

Installing a header and complete exhaust line next week also a 1ZZ TB. I'll be making a new intake myself next winter, spent enough $$$ and time on this car for this year. About $3k the past 5 weeks.

On to the Audi A6 Quattro Avant project. LOL

Exhaust line is done, Mid section is perfect and no resonance. 1ZZ TB installed. Idle was at 1020-1050rpm, got it down to 850 but it won't go lower. At least it's not giving me a p0505 CEL anymore, did a reset then a complete diagnostics. Car pulls a lot harder, very much so in 1st-2nd with wheels spinning out shifting in second.

Thanks, coming along great! I'll post some more recent pics soon.

Selling the Suburban, don't use it and too expensive for nothing. Yaris project is almost done for this season, stage 1!!!! Next is the Audi, getting a complete rework but nothing very special to be done with the power train. 2.8L is the least popular,

Here we go Greg!!!

I did the same to get the epoxy out plus I used a very small butane torch with a fine flame to just barely heat it and got it loose instantly. I got it down to 800rpm so far, used blue loctite and at least I can still turn it to fine tune with some resistance. I get wheels spinning in second gear easy so far with my set up.

OBX system is working great combined with my free flow Cat and resonator up front. Cat temp. is about 430c which is normal. The stock OBX-R muffler is doing the job so far and haven't opened it yet, taking a break. My exhaust system is deep toned and low until I punch it at 3000 and then it scream like a bat out of hell.

Yes throttle response is lagging at low throttle and I know TB's with drive by wire are known for that. I'm whiling to order a throttle response module, plugs in on the pedal harness. I'll try it and let you know.

Got a lot accomplished on this car and technically, I'm pretty much ready to do lapping if I wanted to. I'm might start in the Fall but most likely wait till Spring 2015. Theirs little details I will still get around to over the summer but in theory, the car is done and a sweet ride to have fun in. This winter when the car will be in my shop sleeping, going to pull out the motor/transaxle. It will be near 100,000km so I want to replace the water pump and timing chain. Seeing the chain is coming off the head is too to port it both ends. Then I'll machine some aluminum pulleys. I'm an old R&D machinist and getting a lathe and milling this winter. Fed up going to friends shops to have machining time. I much prefer being able to get up in the morning, stoke the fire and go in my shop with hot coffee where my tools and machinery awaits for projects. ;)

A possibility on my to do list this winter, a C-60 6-speed transmission.

I have another car project to start now, a 1999 Audi A6 Quattro Avant with a 2.8L V-6 30v. I like to start and finish my projects.

Been a few weeks and only one change so far. Added my K&N cone air filter with a short tube to my 1ZZ TB. ECU acted a little lost for 2 days on occasion but it learnt and adjusted itself. Everyone as usual kept telling me I would suck in hot air no matter if I was sitting still or on the highway. Obviously sitting still it gets warm seeing the filter is not boxed in separate but once I'm rolling even at just 10-20mph the MAF temp is at the ambient outdoor temperature. If it's 75f in the shade my MAF is at 75f.

I get a P0505 code once every 400-500km only now, I guess it's finally adjusted itself to the bigger TB. Cold starts are at 2200rpm and go down within 10 secs maximum.

I was going to buy some gauges but instead I got the Torque Pro app for my phone and an ELM327 OBD2 bluetooth connector. The phone is a little small for a screen but for now it will do till I purchase a 7" tablet as an info center and media center.

At the moment monitor the following.

- RPM
- GPS Speed
- Catalytic temp. B1S1
- Catalytic temp. B1S2
- MAF cfm
- Intake temp.
- Throttle %
- Volts
- Coolant temp.
- afr
- Average L/100km
- Fuel Flow L/hr
- AFR
- Fuel
- Distance to empty in km
