Want a full size spare

Hi all,

I drive my car a LOT on long distance 1,000+ mile trips and always wondered what I'd do if I blew a tire at 2:30 AM in the middle of nowhere on a Saturday night. That being said, I want a full size spare for these trips.

My Yaris is the first car I've owned that has TPMS. Aside from buying a steel wheel and a tire, what other components do I need? Do I need an actual TPMS sensor to keep the TPMS light from coming on the dash? Anything else?

Thanks guys.

Full size spare Will not fit where your doughnut spare goes. Yes you'll need a sensor for the steel wheel spare if you get one or the light will go on. I have steel wheel spares in the shed for both our cars But there's no way to carry one.

You will have to sync the extra sensor with the car anyways. Spare don't need the sensor AFAIK.

And the cover fits flush?

Pretty sure my full size spare won't fit in there. Could I be wrong!?

Thanks guys.

I have a hatchback and was planning on throwing the spare in the back. I always have the back seats folded down so there will be plenty of room.

There's a thread here w/ photos on removing the spot welded stamping that props up the front of the spare...I believe reason involved fitting a larger spare.

This is tac welded to the car, so before doing this you need to make sure you don't have any emotional attachments to that doughnut. I simple took a big hammer and beat it out...but you can definitely grind away the tac welds. then simply fill the holes in and ta da! full size spare room

Very impressive Hot Racer. I'm not sure I'd need another wheel, but carrying around a tire would certainly be great. Almost any service station can put on a new tire (after the towing) but almost no station is going to have that size tire.

On the other hand most flat tires are repairable.

The other part of me would take out the tire altogether, drop in an inflation kit, and enjoy the massive additional storage space.

Hidden storage space, at that. In San Francisco these days you have to leave or glove box open and take off the cargo cover or you get a broken window from junkies looking for anything at all to steal.
