Exclamation 2010 Yaris - Engine Quit While Driving

With 83k miles on it, I'm surprised (and really bummed) that while in the middle of an intersection, the engine simply stopped running. There's no water in the oil, put in a new battery & nothing.
No clicks or other signs of life.
Dealership claims it's "child proofed" with a kill-the-engine mode.
My code reader doesn't detect a problem. To this the dealership says only they can unlock it & reset the engine.
This sounds ridiculous, however, the cost to "reset the engine" makes it a good thing for the dealership.
Have any Yaris owners, pros, enthusiasts, mechanics seen this happen?
Suggestions and HELP Please!
Thanks
