Anyone try non ethanol gas?
The gas station near me just put in a pump that has non ethanol gas for about 30 ish cents more than regular. Is there any difference in MPGs to make it worth the extra cost?

If the fuel with ethanol is E10 like we have here, you should see about a 3 percent improvement using the non ethanol gas. On our prices here in Australia, it's generally cheaper to run E10.
E10 generally has a slightly higher octane rating than standard gas, but i can't really pick any performance difference in the 2NZ-FE. It is also claimed to have a cleaning effect on the fuel system.

I wish there was a non-ethanol gas option where I live - but no.

I have the choice of E10 94 RON, or non ethanol fuel at 91, 95 or 98 RON.
A full tank of E10 will get an estimated range to empty of 484 kilometres. 91 RON non ethanol will see the display rise to 514 kilometres. Any difference in performance is too small for me to notice in daily driving.

I have been running non-ethanol 87-octane fuel in both my 12 Yaris L and 17 Yaris iA since dates of purchase. On the odd times I have been forced to use E-10 87-octane fuel, I notice about perhaps a 3 MPG decrease on a tank.

dont know where in az you are at, but most QuickTrip stores sell it. A seperate nozzle, that around here has a red cover on the handle is for alcohol free gas. diesel has a green cover and normal gas has black cover. They've been selling it here for years but I've not bought it due to the price difference . Well, not true. I buy it for my lawnmower. more power than regular alcohol gas for sure.

When I'm in New Brunswick I can get it at a Petro Canada for the same price as other stations are charging for E10. Always take advantage of it out of curiosity to see if I record any difference over E10. Never do.

^ +1. Don't notice any difference either. I do however - in a rather non-scientific way - notice a difference in L/100k between 'winter' gas and 'summer' gas.

Then as the years went on, stickers fell off, didn't get replaced, and no one knows for sure whats going on. I've been to a dozen places in Fredericton, some have the stickers, most dont. When I ask about it at one of the stations without any sticker: "I think there is ethanol in it", "We're getting new stickers..." (despite there being no stickers on their pumps for several month), "I have absolutely no idea", "Its all ethanol" are just some of the answers I get. I contacted Irving (who supplies almost all the gas here, no matter what station you are going to) and all I got was the PR bull crap "fuel in NB may contain...." Bottom line: just because their isnt an ethanol content sticker on the pump, or the clerk claims its ethanol free, doesn't necessarily mean it is. For my part I go to stations with two tanks (as oppose to three) and get Medium, which means at worst I'm getting 5% (50/50 at-the-pump mix of 10% and 0%). So 5% ethanol from using 89 octane mid grade would really only apply at Shell stations at least in Ontario

Seriously, if you have the local option for non-ethanol fuel, at least try a tank or two, and see how your car performs. You may be pleasantly surprised. I get an average of 40 MPG per tank. I have a Fuelly signature, which keeps track below.

Does anyone else notice that you can almost "smell" when a gas station has more ethanol than another? It almost smells more... gassy? I find that Chevron smells the worst but Esso smells normal. Am I correct? British Columbia Canada BTW

I thought non ethanol or highest rated octane gas was bad for the yaris? I have a 2007 I was reading the manual of it saying something about the catalytic converter?

I have a 07 HB for the last 6 years. Prior I had a 09, neither
had any issue on 87 octane non ethanol gas. The only time I buy ethanol laced is when their is no other choice, which is not often. |
