If it's not the tranny then it's def still something within the drivetrain, possibly an issue with a CV axle or boot. I would have it looked at right away before it gets worse
My Yaris does that too. Its not a loud whining sound, but a noticeable whine when accelerating. It seems to go away after driving between two or four miles-- on some occasions more or less. If it’s warm outside the whining sound will go away quicker. When its cold it stays longer. I assume the whine sound when accelerating was because the Yaris was not warmed up?

Whining is the wrong word I had used in my post. It's more of a whirring sound.

For the past few month I have noticed a progressively louder whine-like noise coming from the engine compartment. The faster I go the louder it gets. I thought it may be the tires, checked the pressures and rotated them and no improvement. The noise is continuous and just louder the faster i go.

I plan on taking it in for service because noise is just getting to me. I have to turn the radio up to drown it out. Other than that the car is fine. I have a 90 mile round trip commute each day.

Its and 07 sedan with 65,000 miles

Any help would be appreciated

You should check and see if the noise is only when you accelerate in gear or if it whines when you give it gas and the car is in park or neutral. If if does this when you are in gear only then it is prob a drivetrain issue, if it does it when you are in park or neutral then I would start with the alternator and check it. Alternators can start to put out a high pitch whine if a diode or a stator fails.
