Is it a grinding screech or a high pitched whirring screech

My guess for a screech would be the serpentine belt. Since it is an '06, this belt has either stretched and needs to be re-tensioned, or it has reached end of life and needs replacing.

Yeah, could be the belts being old and worn with moisture on them.

Yep, I agree the its the belt. First check the belt if its worn or a bit torn change it but if its good then you can loosen the alternator a bit to tighten the belt, good luck buddy

Nah man its not the timing belt, just look for your alternator belt you only have one that is visible push down on it and you will notice that the belt is not tight and just loosen the alternator screw and tighten that baby up and that will resolve your problem

are you saying it takes 11 sec before it starts, and while it's trying to start it makes screeching noise?

Our cars have timing chains, IIRC. At least, all the japanese made ones do.

This is what is now making the OP's original post confusing. If the noise is occurring before the engine has even caught, then the belt is not the issue. If the noise occurs for 11 seconds after initial start, then we are still looking at a possible belt issue.

OP - please clarify when exactly you experience this noise. Also, you have described your issue as both a 'grind' and a 'screech'. Which is it? The belt will not cause a grinding sound.

o.k, so it takes 11 sec for the engine to start and while it's cranking over it makes the screeching noise, now once the engine fires up does the noise goes away or does it continue making the screeching noise.......if the noise stops it's probably the starter and not the belt.
