Drum Paint
I read the thread on painting calipers and drums and there are, of course, no shortage of opinions... The sign of an active forum
I want to paint my drums just to cover up the rust. Either flat or glossy black. The car is a black 06 RS 4 door hatch (I think they were only available in Canada from what I read). I assume that the paint needs to be some sort of heat resistant paint. Any recommendations on the type to use and relative cost? I am cheap by nature so I was kinda thinkning of the flat black BBQ paint Thanks Guys. Great Forum. |

Yeah. I think that is the conclusion I have reached. I think I will brush them down with a wire brush and then treat with some rust converter (changes the rust to black and is paintable). I think Glossy Black. Might do my front calipers as well.
Thanks

well the front calipers are "aluminum/silver" color, you can prob. paint them that way to keep it original and then paint the drums black.

Give them a coat of anti-rust or "kill rust" primer first, then 2-3 coats of your choice. Heat proof isn't a bad idea either.

Rust is a never ending issue here in Canada since we have to use salt on the roads in the winter to melt the ice. Makes the roads safer but try spraying your car with salt all winter long and see what happens

Yeah I know. I did do a search which is how I came across the discussion of pros and cons for the painting of calipers and drums. Was just soliciting further ideas. I am usually quite dilligent about researching before asking questions on the various forums to which I belong.
