And then there's me...

...I'll cheerfully be dropping in AMSOil 0W-20 after 1000 miles with one of the extended-drain filters (planning to do it for on my birthday), and sitting pretty on it until next year or 17k, whichever comes first, and spending $20 every 5000 miles on an oil-analysis for the first year including when I first change the oil to synthetic. I hope to change the tranny to synthetic at the same time.

The whole point of switching to synthetic for me is primarilly reduced engine maintenance schedules, as I'm happy with the service life of the Yaris with dino-oil.

holy shit, 3k miles?? some drivers rack that every month. in all honesty, if you're running a good synthetic, 5k is really babying the engine, since toyota asks for 5k intervals for dino oil. bottom line for intervals: LOOK AT THE DAMN BOTTLE! if it says good for whatever mileage, then just dont go beyond that mileage. period. and for oil filters?? wix, purolator, amsoil, mobil 1...whichevers cheapest/readily available.
