Had to pull roof rack seals off, are they just cosmetic?

They were dried up and flopping about.

I figure if anything they were allowing water underneath them and the water would sit there.

Without them the water is exposed to the sun and also flows down the front or back of the car.

As far as I can tell they are cosmetic.

Is it crucial to replace them asap?

The seams under there are just glued with a few spot welds. I would replace them to protect the seam sealer from breaking down with the UV.

Just wondering if you could repeat what the tech told you.

I am always looking to stabilize my Yaris on the freeway (still looking to stick on vortex generators) But I was also wondering if taking the flat seals off and replacing them with tall air dams (about 2" or more? talll) might help keep air from "spilling over" the sides and help car track straight?

Said there is no need to rush to put new ones on.

That was about it.
