A little teaser...

I've been without my Yaris for a few months now as it's been undergoing a heart transplant (drowned the engine going through a deep puddle while having a cold air feed tube from the fog light hole)... And today I got my first test drive of the slightly upgraded beast... There's still a lot to be done but wow, what fun, I understand what the boosted guys are talking about now :D

So many questions, so little time!!!
Just beautiful!
How easy or difficult was the installation overall?
What type of engine management are you using?
What transmission and axles?
Maybe from an AE92 or AE101 Corolla?
Did you have to eliminate or reroute the A/C?

I better stop here or the list of questions would go on and on.

Well the car's been at their workshop since late September, that should give you an idea of how "easy" it's been. Frame rails had to be notched, electricals have to be made to talk to each other, so much had to be fabricated, etc...

Engine management is stock 4A-GZE's ECU + HKS V-con Vpro2 (the box of choice for local tuners)

Transmission is actually the stock C50... the one that came with the 4A was simply too big to fit. They actually broke my original tranny (engine was tested at 300+hp then detuned to about 200 as it is now) and replaced it. Clutch also had to be replaced, now have a 6-puck copper based one.

AC is still there, can't really survive without it when it's meltingly hot and humid outside :D Power steering had to be hacked a bit, though, they could not get the PS ECU to work properly, so it's not really speed-sensitive anymore... I think I can find a way to adjust the strength, though, it seems a little too light.

Any other Questions? :D

Yours? Or mine? I really wish I had spent less money on making the car look good when I first got it, and gone turbo from the get-go :p

Yep, a lot of people stick a new engine in an old car, I went the other way

It's a late 90s 4A-GZE, with the supercharger removed (not enough space in the engine bay) and replaced by a turbo setup based around an IHI VF35 ball-bearing unit. (stock turbo from late-model Imprezas, quite responsive). It currently runs at the lowest boost possible, 0.7bar (around 10 psi), with an estimated power output of 200whp (still gotta dyno it, though). Boost comes on around 3000RPM and doesn't really let up til the 7500RPM redline

But I had to let them take it back to the workshop, there is still some work to be done... The F-con is having some power supply problems and the car is very hard to get started. Also need to get some new gauges put in, like boost, wideband AF and a tach! As it turns out, they can't get the car's stock tach working... and since this engine redlines at 7,500 RPM, might as well get a new one...
