problem of gearing, 1st and 2nd gear, Yaris 2008, 1.3 VVTi 64 kw

Hi everyone. Greetings from Slovenia !

I have a problem when I stop and I want to put in the 1st gear is not going or very difficult. When I then move and shift to the 2nd gear, it's always slightly stiff. It's very easy to do other gears. The clutch does not slip, but it's just a problem with the 1st and 2nd. I recently bought the Yaris 2008 year 1.3 VVTi 64 kw engine, 30,000 miles, previously driven by an old lady. What could be a clutch problem? Today we radiated an auxiliary clutch cylinder but the problem remained almost the same. the car was regularly serviced and the brake fluid changed recently.

Try replacing the transmission gear oil.

And remember using a GL4 75w oil for the gearbox.
The original isnt that expensive at all.

my mechanic says that 10 years old is a lot for still first gearbox coupling, so I'm thinking about changing new. But first we will replace the gearbox oil and the new gearbox wires, to see if will be better. Thx

tomorrow we will change the clutch kit. The new set is not that expensive, so I decided to change it, because the clutch is quite hard on the foot.

Please let us know how did the clutch change went and whether your clutch is now easier on foot too.
I have the same Yaris, same engine and the clutch is stiff and gerbox sometimes grinds when shifting from 1 to 2.
AFAIK this is a known issue for Yaris and some people say the clutch change will not help while some other say it will. There are modified gear selector parts available that helped some people with this problem.
My Yaris is now at 160,000 miles, clutch stiff AF but I do not know whether I want to pay 450 USD for the change here. It is too much considering how old this car is.

What modified gear selector parts ? We solved the problem partially, but not completely.
The clutch is as soft on pedal, as the smooth clutch release bearing slides along its axis. It can be dirty with soot out of the disc assy clutch, which eventually wears.

the clutch is now very soft. We gave a new clutch set of Luk. Interestingly, the origin of the clutch set was written by Luk - Toyota. The new kit contained only a different pushing bearing, ( I am not happy about that, we put the old one back, only ) because the variants A and B of different bearings are possible under the same catalog number. I paid € 108 for the material and the work of the mechanic for 5 hours was € 80.

We also changed a new gearbox oil because the old was very dirty and almost liquid as water. No it did not provide the right protection for the transmission. We cleaned the clutch housing and the clutch release bearing axis were greased with new grease. The old bearing (Type B) is inside the metal, and the type A (new one) has a plastic sliding core in the center, which is not the same, so we gave back the old one (it was still in a good condition), although it would be optimal to give a new one, but we did not have it at that time, and the gearbox has already been disassembled.

Clutch release bearing : Type A, Type B......in the picture below. The same OEM part number. we were not able to know in advance what is currently on the vehicle

the problem is still not solved. I examined it under the console of the gearbox, there is something to be set up at least. I will try to replace a longer 5mm push rod on the clutch's slave cylinder to better separate the clutch.

Just a good advice, start with changing the oil to original 75W GL4 as i adviced you to do.
You have put in a GL5 oil and that is against Toyotas recommendations.
It has been discussed a lot on the danish Toyota forum, and there is also many who has tried other oils with poor result/shifting.
And when they finally give up other oils and put the right oil in then they admit that solve the problem.

I do not know, but the same problem was also present before changing the new oil. Although I think that the first oil was still original and 10 years old. Mobil1 is superior oil and has the same specification GL4/5 75w-90, and it is a fully synthetic. I think the problem is something else, I'll explore. I will also change the firmer bushing on the end link of gearing cable, because there is now some 3 mm empty walk and the shifting is not so precise.

We replace the gear oil with original from Toyota and it still difficult shiffting. I think it is some cylinder but it is not leaking any fluid. Fluid level is the same all the time.
