this is correct?
I would think that the + wire should get ignition switched +12 V power and the reverse wire would connect to the red back-up light wire. Does the documentation explain the pin trigger? I would think that it would be a separate way of turning the camera on (like when you are not going in reverse).

I was walking around the block the other day and was almost runover by a Corolla backing out of its driveway. It was about 10 feet from the sidewalk and I didn't see the driver in the car or hear the engine running. As I walked behind it it suddenly started moving towards me. I screamed "Look Out!!!" and the driver stopped just as the rear bumper touched me.

Yeah it had a backup camera in it which the driver didn't look at. Not only that, even if she DID look I was completely out of the camera view walking from the drivers right to left.

So the camera only works if the subject is right behind the vehicle, not moving.

Just a heads up all you people.

^^I highly doubt anyone here is using the backup camera solely for safety. I only use one for parking in tights spots.

It shouldn't be used for safety at all! The driver needs to look themselves 180 degrees behind the vehicle when backing up.

Now that I think of it, if the camera is used in tight parking spaces for backing up and the driver doesn't do a 180 before starting to reverse they could run someone over who is moving towards the vehicle but is out of the cameras field of view.

Because of advertising on TV I imagine A LOT of people think of a rear view camera as a safety device.

Which it isn't!

Know this is older, but here's a couple of YouTube videos that show how to hook up a Reverse Camera. Nothing fancy:

Hate to revive an old thread, but i'm doing the same thing here with the exact same wiring harness and am a bit confused as to where/what i tap into to provide power to the camera; would I tap into the reverse light and wire that to the camera's power cable, or actually run a power wire from the camera itself all the way to the front and splice that into the red wire on the harness?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

For the cam, I tapped into the reverse light wire in the taillight. The trigger for the head unit, I tapped into the red wire in the fuse box.
