Yeah, but IMHO, the 2000GT was much sexier than the Sports 800, Just like the Datsun Fairladys/Zs Yamaha went on to design after it, pure beauty in sheet metal.

Nice car, but I always prefered the 1973 Celica....or is the 2000GT a sportier version of the Celica?

Talking about how things change too....this is the Nissan Skyline from that Era....who would have guessed it would become what it has today...

Certainly a funky little car...next Scion?
The 2000GT is a very sexy car! I like the early Supra Celica's (or is it Celica Supra?), very nice.

Ooooh, I love those old Celicas too, here is the 2000GT, for those who haven't seen one:
(And yes, those are popup headlights, the massive lights in the bumper are driving lights.)
The 2000GT was actually designed by Yamaha, and originally offered to Datsun who didn't accept the vehicle, Toyota put it into production in very low numbers, and it's thought it is more a "proof-of-concept" than a production vehicle and there is talk that Toyota lost money on each car sold. Yamaha, of course, later went on to design the Fairlady/Z series for Datsun. Can't you see the family resemblence?

More info, for those interested, the engine used was the 3M, it was a 2.0 Litre inline-6 based on the M-block with a Yamaha designed DOHC head and used 3 two-barrel Solex 40 PHH Carburators. It used a 5-speed manual transmission, had a limited slip differential, and, an oddity for it's time, had power-assisted disc brakes at all four wheels. It was produced from 1967-1970 and only 337 were produced. Of course James Bond drove a convertable in "You Only Live Twice" and Sailor Uranus drives a yellow convertable in Sailor Moon (my friends are anime geeks) but the 2000 was never commercially available as a convertable, the Bond cars were custom, two were retrofitted for the movie.
