Talking Sort of a Yaris purchase ...

Looks like we're getting a Sterling Silver '16 Scion Ia ( Yaris , Mazda 2 ) with the 6 speed auto . Test drove both with the automatic for 25 mile loops having the 2 of us , 30% city and speeds up to 60 . There were more red lights for the Sterling Silver . The other is Sapphire Blue . Both rode and handled well , considering they had over 40 p.s.i. in the tires .

Welcome to the future of the Yaris! The iA looks decent, except for a plastered on snout that makes the 2015/2016 Yaris look like a beauty queen by comparison. Hopefully, the first official refresh of the car will eventually fix that. As a rebadged 2015 SkyActiv Mazda2 it should be a pretty sweet driving car.

Are the standard alloys on the iA 15" or 16"? The silver one looks a lot better to me, of the two (at least from the rear/sides). I'm thinking that black is the only way to go with that snout though.

I drove an automatic just this weekend. It feels tight and drives very well. I prefer the silver one as well.

First thing I'd do is either paint that front bumper bar silver to match the car or wrap it with 3M silver carbon fiber DI-NOC. That would break up that massive black hole up front. Second, I'd rebadge it with Mazda emblems.

The tires are 185/60-16 on alloys . Very rare size . Can live with the front . Don't see it all that much when behind the wheel . Don't plan any upgrades . Old fashioned . Pick up is tomorrow . Will give it a good exam and if all looks well will sign papers . Have had few bad experiences in the past . The car will cost a little over $16,000 with trunk mat and 4 mudguards installed at no cost ( $240 for both ) . Payments will be under $200 at 0% for 5 years .

Under $200 a month at 0%?

The price is right, no doubt.

185/60/16? That certainly is an unusual size. I guess that's the 3rd thing I'd change... to 205/55/16.

It looks good from the back and sides. The front is a different story.

This the real Mazda 2 before it got turned into a carp. The back and side look the same as the Mazda 2 the front looks like a fish.

Also, the native Mazda2 snout does look a lot better on that car. Not a fan of the alloy wheel design on either the stock iA or Mazda2 though.

The front bumper of the 2 does look better , but we can live with it . The 195/55-16 are an option . Would consider General Altimax RT43 H for A/S and Blizzak WS 80 for winter . The Ia gets best crash results , especially offset , so that helped .

Went against the purchase of the Ia . Less than 1 year of production , only 1 tire / size ( Toyo Proxes A27 ) , discovered + read of some quirks with the 6 speed auto tranny , not so easy regular maintenance and only have a few years left on current loan . Last , will wait on the TOYOTA Yaris to see if any exterior / interior upgrades and longer period of time to observe for reliability . Sad , we were fond of it and the decent price / loan .

Smart buyer, you did your homework. Kudos.

Sorry you're not able to bask in the new car smell...yet.

My brother's wife had to have a new car and they got a good deal on a 15 Civic. I told him to wait it out for the upcoming new Subaru Impreza. I'm kind of enamored with the WRX myself. I know they are doing a major redesign on that soon. For me, it will be between that and a new Tacoma probably. AWD is a very nice feature up here with the snow we get. I'd like to see Toyota offer more of their cars with AWD. Not everybody wants a truck, RAV4, or other SUV just to get AWD. That's why Subaru has had record sales for the past 7 yrs. People want that AWD and Toyota can't seem to figure that out.

Reading through the Scion iA thread below isn't very encouraging, considering that this (& its Mazda2 Hatchback sibling) will be the 2017+ Yaris. But, according to CR the iA is a much better car than the "dismal" 2nd/3rd Gen Yaris - because it is "more modern" and tech-savy.

Those reviews don't sound promising for such a new car.

They read like typical gripes and minor annoyances that you'll find talked about for any vehicle whether economy or luxury.

Windows that are non-operational isn't a minor gripe in my realm.
