I promise you that non-functional anything is a big deal to Toyota

So I saw my first iA in person today. Nice looking car...until you get to the front. What was Toyota thinking? They should have left it as Mazda designed it and just stuck on some Scion badges. Would have been cheaper that way too.

Also was surprised to see that it has drum brakes in the rear. Drum brakes are one of my pet peeves. I can't believe that they are still used in this day and age.

Other than those two things the car looks like a winner.

Some of the curves/proportions look weird to me on the Mazda2/iA, just like they do on the latest Mazda3 - but I love the rear/taillight design for the most part. I'm with you on the drum-brakes and front-design. I would spring for an iM long before I even considered an iA - for a variety of reasons.

Drums in the rear is much less maintenance than disc brakes.

You can go through 2 sets of front discs before needing anything for the drums. Cheap maintenance for me.

Also, I don't think I've see any Yaris sedan yet.

That has more to do with the forward weight transfer during breaking than with the type of brakes on the rear axle. The same would probably be true on a 4 wheel disc setup, such as the SE model. I'll let you know when it's time for a brake job on my car.
