That would explain why the lock button and remote don't work anymore on that side

More importantly, how do I fix that. All the damn dealer-installed aftermarket stuff I have on there is freaking shoddy I wish it weren't there in first place so I could do it properly.

You can add bend/slight curve to the rod. If there is enough of the rod
protruding through the bracket you could drill a hole and add a cotter pin.

There isn't much slack in that cable. JB wouldn't hold, but a crimp splice might,

Meh. Fixed it so I can at least lock and unlock that side with the keys or with the remote. The inside lock button is without function for now. But it looks like I could loosen that little black Allen screw a bit and pinch both ends of the broken cable in there. If I care enough to fix it to rip the damn door card off again. Meanwhile I'll drive a "free candy" Yaris, I guess ;)
