17" tires/wheels too big??

hi i'm a girl and i'm pretty stupid when it comes to tires/wheels. i just got a red 2007 3 door Liftback. I asked the dude at Discount Tires how big i could go and he said no bigger than 17". right now i have the stock 15" tires and (barf) SNAP ON wheel covers. I've been reading on these treads and it appears that 17" is too big. so, my question is.....are they? should i just stick with my 15" tires and just get the wheels. it sure would save me a lot of dough, but i want my sh*t to look pimpin' so money really isn't a factor.

WELCOME To our family!

I think I remember something of why people don't think you should go 17's. *Can't find the post(s) @ work hiding from boss*

Think one reason was because w/ bigger rims, they tend to be heavier then the stock. Along with it being bigger and heavier it takes more work to move, blah blah blah, overall less gas mileage.

Since you said you want your Yaris to look pimpin' then I suppose gas is not an issue.

a pimpin' yaris, eh?

dunno what to think of that, I prefer the look of 15's on this car but to each his own, nothing wrong with 17's many people on here running 17's, does seem a bit heavy and oversized in my opinion but you could do something really disgusting like putting 20's on it, at least you are not trying to do that

anyway glad to know there is another liftback on the road in dallas

few and far between

Just because it fits, don't mean you should do it. 17 or even 18 in my opinion will give you the best look and best ride on the Yaris. I have 17 and I still scrape the front bumper every now and then

In Japan the Vitz is on either 17 or 18 inches. There are light rims in 17 in and they are even lighter than most 15 or 16 in rims. Yes it's about unsprung weight. There are some running in autocrosses with 17's. I think the best size is 205 x 40 x 17. 215's you will feel the tire start to track a bit on rough or grooved roads. I think 18's is a bit much and then the cost of the tire is more since you have to go to a lower profile 30 series. Also chances are the 18's are 7.5 or even 8 inches wide. If you do get the 17's I would suggest you lower it which will improve the handling and make it look alot nicer with that tucked in wheel look. It's up to you if you ant to put in performance dampers depending on how you want the right or what you intend to do with your car. Cheers.

Oh, yes, if you do get rims that are a bit heavier, get better brake pads like Hawks or even the TRD pads. You'll need that extra grip to stop on the larger rims.

BTW I find your screen name ironic.... "gift" in German is "poison", just though you might find that funny as well

No disrespect dude, but 9 posts earlier you claimed 215/40/17 on 7 inch wide wheels is the perfect combo. Now you say you rub every now and then, that's not perfect.

For zero rubbing, with only a 3% difference in diameter, people should choose a 205/40/17 on a 7 inch wheel with 38-40mm offset.

i actually went with 16's. 17's would be nice though...but the tires cost more and the ride is slightly rougher.

false Peter!
for zero rubbing 215/40R17 with a +42
and that will keep you closest to stock diameter aswell
