I had the third gear grind. The car had 100,000km on it and I never changed the gear/tranny oil. I got Toyota to flush it and was extremely worried after the flushed since the clutch was slipping when I got it back. But after a several days, the slipping went away along with the third gear grind.

I'd listen to tango and either use redline, or in my case, I'd play it safe and use the Toyota stuff.

I have a 3rd gear grind as well. I feel it at higher RPMs both when upshifting from 2nd and downshifting from 4th. I'm getting it looked at on Tuesday. The mechanic actually drove my car and felt the grind, and he says it's not the clutch, but that it could be somewhere along the transaxle. I also have a new ACT Stage 1 clutch in there, so I agree that it's unlikely to be a clutch problem.

I really hope that the warranty covers it though. They've started to ask questions about my aftermarket parts.

They also changed the tranny oil to OEM about a month ago. Would it make any difference if I switched back to MT90 this early to see if that fixes the grind?

lol i had the same prob my car has 6k miles on it. Went back to my dealer and they gave me a whole new tranny Even with all the mods i have on. I/H/E and pulley. As long as wat you added on does not directly or indirectly affect the troubled part then you are good. If they deny to fix for free ask them how exactly your mods have contributed to the fail of your trans... you will quickly see how much they can bs and then call them on it. Let them kno you are not stupid and you kno your stuff also.

When i dropped it off he asked if i had the gear oil changed. i told him that i did it myself a few months ago. He then said well if we find anything wrong with it by default we will let you know. I'm pretty sure they will try and dump this on me. Of course I'm going to raise hell if they do

Ok just got a call back from the dealership... they did here the grind in third gear. They said they wanted to keep the car until tomorrow bc the shop foreman wasn't there. But he said they would give me call tomorrow to let me know what was going with it.

you should have just lied about the oil change.. now they are gonna have to see a receipt and the type of oil you put in..otherwise hope you get lucky and get someone who wont care but to give you a better customer service. good luck

I couldn't lie about it... well i could but, they have the transmission drain plug marked with ink. So they know when the drain bolts been removed. I have receipts... put the correct viscosity in there.
