Block guard

What do you know about block guards? are they required for forced induction with high boost level in aluminum block engines like the 1nz fe??
and if you know the advantages and disadvantages of block guards please tell me!

That depends what you mean by "high boost levels"...

I could say that it enforces the block and stay out of trouble with them although again that depends what you are projecting for.

The only small disadvantage I could see is more weight and money to invest :)

Elprototypes block-guarded their 1nzfe on boost, but it didn't seem to help. they still blew up at least 5 engines.

a block guard on any open deck engine is a good idea though. you can always DIY it too!

I dont know how much the honda guys use them anymore, the inside of the water jackets is only rough cast.. so it is not the same from block to block.. If i recall they sometimes put pressure on only some areas and can have a - effect.

most of the B18 hondas we turbo the owners stop at 350whp stock block, then they sleave.

guys in hialeah use common concrete to build block guards.. lol.. laugh all you want, but it works! south florida has some of the fastest hondas in north america.

That depends how much money you consider to invest on it.

Personal opinion.. if you can DO IT ! I regret I didn't made mine with all the money I put into it and now that is complete I don't what to strip it again!

if i had a good standalone or some way to reflash the stock ECU I would not even open up the stock motor.. Piggy backs seem to blow motors IMO...

true, but piggyback computers do fail, and I don't see them much at the track. The tune is critical, but the hardware is important too.

At the machine shop used to work at we did alot of block gaurds for turbo Hondas. We would weld it to the block and then shave it on the stone cutter. It was a bit overkill but the people who had it done usually ran over 25 psi and up. I have never seen this happen but I have heard in Hondas that they tend to move around and in some cases even slide down. I have never seen it and have my doubts

Well, they do. But like you said. Poor tuning.

Its not the tuning its the fact that you dont have control of what the stock ecu is doing.. it can +/- fuel and timing when ever it wants.... based on what it sees from its sensors.

and i would not do the guard IMO i dont think any good honda guys use them anymore...
