err.. CAI filter rubs on splashguard...
well, I was hoping I was crazy, but on a hard right turn, I can hear the drivers side tire rubbing on the splashguard, and when I looked, the splashguard is pushed out by the intake filter. 185/60/15 winter tread, shouldnt do that.
before I get aggrivated and throw my stock box back in, has anyone else had this issue and is it as simple as bending the bracket that bolts up where the old box sits? noticing the position of the outlined bracket above, mine is not bent like that, it is at a 90 degree angle to the intake, I just wanted to ask before I took the bumper of again. thanks for putting up the noobish questions EDIT: Just noting that this is not my intake, but the piping is the same.. |

My AEM intake rubbed on the fender well plastic and rubbed a hole though the grey paint on the intake.

Welcome to the world of aftermarket auto parts.
They usually almost fit.

If it's that large of a concern (which I assume it is because of you posting about it) then you could remove around an inch from either end of the tube to free up some space, or look into getting a smaller filter for the end.
Alternatively as well if you don't want to remove some yourself you could take it to a local machine shop and have it done. I can't see if being anymore then 20-30 for the work.

I think If I just bend that bracket about an inch it will fit. I just wanted an opinion before I take the bumper back off, as I am installing the 1zz throttle body this weekend, Ill just play with it then. If I remove any length from the pipe, I believe it will rub worse, as it is only the filter that rubs, but thanks for the advise. |

Keep in mind that with the 1zz TB you'll need a silicon reducer coupling. Something like in the picture below is what you're looking for.

smaller filter may help as well.try to compare it to a Ingen filter,as mine was small and has a lot of room.

Has this TB been installed by someone yet and been proven to function correctly and does it really produce extra HP without enlarging the intake?

I'm not sure if anyone has gotten this particular one to work or not, but I know with the matrix TB people have had it rev 3k at cold idle, but Im going to play with it till it works or I get tired of fighting with it, whichever comes first. Quote:
Anyone here in Maine (yah right..) willing to give a free (or really cheap) before and after dyno with this throttle body install? Last edited by AlexNet0; 01-16-2009 at 09:29 PM. |
