Top end run on a Yaris with over 300k miles

Here's the video of my top end run after replacing the spark plugs that had 100k miles on it.

the first night I got the car, as soon as I left the dealership, I went straight to work. and I held the car @ 119mph and kept hitting the speed limiter, but I just kept my foot on the gas. I ran the car @ 119mph for over 2mins of I-75 Alligator Alley. I said to myself, if anything has to break, it's better if it breaks now than later. that night I put over 600 miles on the car within 12hrs. after that night, I had complete faith in my Yaris, and I still do and always will.

Wow, you seem to really push your Yaris to the limit! And STILL managed to reach over 300K with no problems! Proof that the Yaris is bulletproof.

And they say to go through a break-in period - no high speeds, no immediate long trips, no high revving, ect. for the first few thousand miles or so and you broke all those rules the first night and it had no adverse effects on longevity. Amazing.

I baby mine. I never rev beyond 3500. Never really go more than 80 mph.

And you're red-lining it with 304,000 miles!

Wonder how long mine will last!

there are two schools of thought when it comes to breaking in an engine..

Trini's way

and the dealer's way.

i believe whole-heartedly in Trini's way

Can you explain why you think it's proper break-in to take a car to its top speed and drive 600 miles in it's first day?

I'm really actually curious by this logic? Thanks.

And it's not the dealer's recommendation, but rather the auto engineers that suggest this and put it in the owners manual.

If Trini can have a well running car after 300,000miles of pedal to the metal driving then i wont argue about what the manufacturer recommends as far as break in technique, however driving that fast on a regular basis with todays levels of inattention from other drivers is sooner or later going to result in a bad day for Trini.,as an example have you ever wondered why they call it alligator alley?now imagine hitting a 10 footer at 119mph

top speed for 2 minutes bouncing off rev limiter and 600 miles isn't a perfect example but not being afraid to shift at redline is....

FYI, I only do top end runs in my videos to show everyone how well the car still runs. but, on a regular day to day basis, I cruise @ 70mph and won't go faster than that just to just for fuel efficiency.

it's quite funny that you should mention anything about alligator alley. b'cuz last year august, I actually ran over an 8ft alligator on the alligator alley coming back from naples @ 4am. I was cruising @ 70mph when I hit it. it was pitch black. the only light out there were mine. but, by the time I saw it, it was too late. I couldn't swerve to avoid it, b\cuz the road was wet. it was like hitting a brick wall. the car went airborne. and I swore my 2 front tires blew out and my wheels broke. as soon as I landed back onto the road, I pulled onto the shoulder to check the damages. my entire front bumper was under my car. both my HID fog lights were gone. one of my fender liners were gone. luckily, my tires and wheels were not damaged. but, my 2 front struts were busted. I had to replace my entire front bumper, fog lights and struts. the alligator walked away with minimal damage. below are some pics of the damages. if you look closely, you can see the blood on the front lip. the front lip broke on impact and cut him a little bit. by the time the police officer arrived on the scene which was about 1 minute after it happened, we saw the alligator walking through the grass and under the fence back into the water in the everglades. also, if you look carefully at the pic of the front of the car, you'd see the yellow tie strap that police officers use to handcuff ppl holding up my fender liner. the officer gave me and couple in case i needed to strap anything back onto the car. and btw, the fluid on the ground was my windshield water bottle leaking from getting a little crack.

no one seems to know an answer to that.....i asked in previous thread. cause for trini, this can become a reality in another 4-5 years

Interesting read.. I'm gonna have to research this for a few days..

It makes sense for the piston rings, but I have a feeling other parts may not be so happy with you redlining them from day 1.
