2012 Yaris LE - Belt Squeaking

I've been having problems with my belt squeaking on my 2012 Toyota Yaris LE. For a while it would only do it when I turned my AC on, and then it got to the point where it would squeak on start up, and even while driving for several minutes with the AC off.

The belt got torn last night and I replaced it this morning with a 48.7 in. belt (1210mm). I also bought a 46.5 in. (1180mm) as there were two belt sizes for this model year. My model was made in 11/11. The 1180mm was far too tight, and with the alternator all the way back to loosen the pulleys to max, I barely got it on and was too tight with loud squeaking on start up. I was only able to get it off by cutting it.

The 1210mm was fairly easy to get on, and I currently have it tightened with the alternator about 80% of the way forward, pretty tight. If I switch the AC on, the belt immediately slows down and starts doing quarter turns every second. Of course, I get a bad battery signal too since the alternator can't turn correctly.

If I tighten the belt to the max, the car squeaks on start up and won't stop. I'm assuming the other belt tore because I drove around with the AC on, the belt was still turning because crankshaft pulley was turning hard enough, but the belt was slipping on AC compressor pulley, causing it to slowly get damaged. I only put about 20k miles on this belt.

If I loosen it more than it currently is, the belt doesn't turn at all.

Does this seem like a problem directly with the AC compressor pulley, or could it be something inside the AC compressor as well? Is it possible that I can just change the pulley out, or should I replace the entire AC compressor?

Thanks.

first and formost, you shoudl replace the belt and while your in there spin all the pullys and see if they move as they should...while all fingers point at the AC clutch assy..it would be very strange for one to lock up in that style...they useualy FULL LOCK or fail to lock, ive never once heard of one doing what yours is doing
