Axle and Final drive ratios

Hey, just got a OBD 2 wifi reader to play around with and I'm interested to know the axle and final drive ratios. I'm pretty sure what I've filled out is incorrect because it's telling me to shift way sooner than I should be.

That looks correct for a stock Yaris. When is it telling you to shift vs when you think you should?

Ha! 0.969 is almost 1:1. They also have a 1.031:1 4th in some related gearboxes, and a 0.725 5th.

The 07 Vibe/Matrix I got my C59 from. It had a really weird setup: 3.9 FD, 1.031 4th and 0.725 5th. I played with the different combinations on paper and found that the 0.969 was a better fit for the 1NZ. The 2ZR has such a completely different power curve that I may revisit my spreadsheets and see if a different gear set would be better.

OP: Do you have a tach? Most of the MT 2nd gen Yarii didn't come with one, and didn't even have a dummy light.

can't the 5th gear be swapped out? I would think it would give a few more mph/kph out of 5th.

It can, but the tradeoff is that you're losing torque. Almost enough to make it not worthwhile for the MPG alone. I did it more for the RPM drop (and reduced engine noise) than anything.

Doh! My bad. Yes, you can potentially get more MPH, but you will hit the stock speed limiter around 180 KPH/112 MPH. The tradeoff of torque vs RPM is still there, and it makes 5th gear almost completely unresponsive to sudden throttle input at freeway speeds.
