Question Toyota techstream help

Hello everyone.

Since the ELM327 OBD adapter does not work on my JDM Vitz, I invested in a Toyota techstream scanner.

I recently received it and have started to use it. I am a bit lost, I hope some of you can help me get around the software.

The main things I would like to do are:

1) Monitor various sensor data such as speed, temperature, pressures etc
2) Read error codes. I have an intermittent ABS problem, next time the warning light comes I would like to scan the code.
3) Add another smart key. I will be getting another smart key soon and I would like to pair it with my car.

Help and guidance with this will be much appreciated.

Have you received your Techstream VIM and have the Techstream software? Once you bring it up and connect to the vehicle it shows a menu of subsystems of the car. You would click on Engine/ECM to bring up the engine related codes (if there are any stored) and then click on data to view the live sensor data.

For the smart key, that would likely be in the security or door lock subsystem section.

Once you connect the techstream to the vehicle, hit the "connect to vehicle" blue icon on the top left. Then select the options of the car. Then hit "next", once it connects click the "health check" icon & all the ecu's will be displayed.

I cant seem to find the correct model for my car that has the correct features.
I managed to get the health check so thats good, I can see alot of parameter.

I need to access the smart key system so I can add another key to my car.

When I select the model followed by the submodel (e.g. 0506-1102) I cannot find one that matches my car. Is it possible to manually access some of the options ?

Also, I cannot install the MiniVCI drivers on my Win7 laptop. Is it not supported ?
I have had to set up an WinXP desktop in my garage which is quite inconvenient

The model and details of which systems are present should be auto detected. When you installed it, did you select Japan, US or Europe for the area?

The Chinese clone VCIs do not work with Win7. I have the real (approved by Toyota) Mongoose MFC and it even works with my Windows 8 tablet.

I selected Japan for the area at first but I found that I could do more by selecting Europe.

I think I just need an updated driver for the VCI for it to work on Win7

From what I have seen, I don't believe that there is an updated driver for the clone VCI.

I did some more research and yest the clones do not work with Win7 x64 bit. Only way is to use Virtual machine. Ah I will just stick to using a desktop.

I converted a thin client into a full computer so its very small and easy to carry around.

Thanks for the advice to everyone.

Just an update guys, I managed to get the VCI to to work with Win7 x64. The driver itself works but the problem is that the driver installer file does not let you install the drivers. I manually extracted the driver INF files from the installer and manually installed the drivers.

I will do a proper write up for this if someone is interested

The techstream seems to be working fine. It is a little bit slow and works better on an XP machine. I got it from a supplier I know in China, I think you can get one of ebay.

I haven't tried to read faults yet but it does let me change some of the different settings in the car.
