Might be an attempt to shield the air intake from the heat in the engine bay? Probably he's running a pod filter as well.

on the air box, the stock opening on the side of the airbox facing the engine was fiberglassed shut, and a 6"x3" opening was cut in the front of the factory air box, and a 3" round hole in the side of the box facing the fender. aluminum sheeting was used to channel the cold air flow to the openings.
A drop in K&N filter replaced the factory paper element.

after that I fabbed a alimunum box to help shield the factory airbox from engine heat and also give it a finished smooth look.

I have had bad luck with re-positioning MAF sensors on cars like this, generally with this MAF set up you will get CEL's and the fuel/air mixture will be off. so I am using the stock location for the MAF...but I am altering the housing to get more air(colder air too) for hopefully a bit more HP.

Sounds like it has a intake, looks good, thats enough for me.

The mounting plates for the strut tower brace I will be fabricating will be diamond plate also to go with the theme, and a couple other covers will be made from the polished aluminum diamond plate as the airbox.

the interior will get some polished aluminum added to it, and the rest of the interior and possibly the plastic engive valve cover shield or whatever you want to call it will be done in carbon fiber.

I am trying to keep the car black, white, and polished aluminum...other colors just seem too much when dealing with a white car and I like a smooth clean look.

Do you have side air bags? I ask because our Yaris has side airbags and we can't use seat covers.
