Door Lock problem
I replaced the driver's door and the install went fine until I switched locks.
I took the lock out of the new door and replaced it with the lock from my old door so that I could continue using one key only for all the locks. I hooked up the two cables to the latch, tried the key in the lock back and forth and it seemed to work. I then put the panels back on and shut the door to try out the lock. THE door WOULD NOT OPEN! I've tried from the inside and the outside to open it. I've tried with the key back and forth and still no luck. I decided to remove the panel but realized that I couldn't with the door closed. I was wondering if the upper portion of the panel is removable without breaking it. Anyway, is there someone out there with a solution to my problem that doesn't involve wreaking the panel. Much appreciated and thank you!!! |

That's not going to be fun. When I mess with a lock I test the opening and closing by using a screwdriver as the door catch to make absolutely sure that it works before putting the panel on and then again before closing the door with the panel back on.
The cable may be pinched under those foam blocks under the panel or it may not be seated properly under the little door on the lock assembly. The top panel of the door is somewhat removable, but there are plastic bosses that go into a hole and then are melted to keep them from pulling back though. You would need to force them to break without cracking the rest of the panel. Once you get it off and then get the door open and remove the rest of the panel you can with use self tapping screws to reassemble to two sections or can glue them.
