Not all Yaris have the handbrake alarm. See above click.

If anyone know how to install one ? I assume just connecting the handbrake light or wire to the seat belt chime?

Your parking brake alert should be that you're not going anywhere ;)

The parking brake switch has one yellow wire. When the brake is up that wire gets grounded, so you can install a 12V beeper and connect its + lead to ignition switched power and its - lead to that yellow wire.

As one post on your link suggests, perhaps it is a pre 08 thing. Mine doesn't have one either.

Looks simple, but if I do that, it seems like the beeper will sound even when the car is not moving (ignition on, but not driving, in Park mode)

Is it possible to make something that only beeps when car is driving?

That is correct.

It would be possible to make one that only beeps when the car is moving, but that would take a bit of extra electronics to do so.

Not sure why some Yaris have this fitted but some don't.

Similarly the seat belt chime only sound when the speed is over 20km/h(equivalent to xx miles), if it is easier, how possible is it to hook up the handbrake wire to seat belt chime?

I would really like to have one that works only when the car is moving, can you briefly explain where i have to connect to make this work, I will try my best to figure it out myself.

Thanks

I think it may have just been a feature added in 07 or 08. If that is the case, changing the cluster to a newer might make it work (although the ebrake switch is an input to the body ECU, rather than the cluster).

Bridging the seatbelt and ebrake would be way more difficult than adding a motion based signal to the ebrake.

If you want to experiment with a beeper, tie the - side to the yellow wire on the ebrake switch and the + side to the pink wire on the ignition switch connector.

Yea..not feeling like changing the cluster, i like my 2006 version.

But I will try experiment with the beeper like you suggested, thanks

I kind of found a solution, it may work ok, but not what it ideally for

I will bridge a motion sensor with delay timer... let's see if this will work well

You would be better off with an accelerometer. The Yaris vibrates more when stationary than when it is moving.

oops, i was gonna say motion, like a regular household motion sensor that works with 12V and adjustable sensor and timer. If I can find something smaller I would also use that.

Accelerometer is good idea, let me see what ebay has to offer.

I could actually make you a device that works off the VSS (speed sensor) wire. My Demetricifier (which lets a km cluster work as a Mile one) interprets that signal, so driving a beeper instead of manipulating that signal would be very easy.

Sure, it might actually be a lot easier at my end, if it is not too expensive, Im really just looking for an economical way to do this little beeper. Thanks
