I hope all of you Yaris owners with 72 month loans paying 290+ per month optioned for the gap insurance.

Your car is going to be upside down for most of it's life... and claiming a total loss on an upside down vehicle without gap insurance will put you in a situation where you will NOT have a car and still be paying for it. At the very best, you'll end up with a salvage title and a derelict car... and STILL be paying for it.

i always paid cash for new cars and took a chance ( never even bought full insurance coverage on any of them - just plain liability)---- and as of today i think i'm about $ 50K richer ........

that's the way to do it... but I always get Comprehensive to cover random acts of a vengeful God...

Plus... have you ever noticed that most policies describe Comprehensive as covering collision with an "animal"?

So, if you ever end up driving off the road and ruining your vehicle... point to whatever bug carcasses are on your grill and windshield and announce "they came outta nowhere!!!!"

But seriously... buyers... if you are going to finance long term. Gap insurance.

total you will pay for car is ca. $ 3500 too much plus you have to buy full coverage ins......... if you are lucky w/ insurance , altogether you will pay ca. $ 100/month more, than you should------------

$138/month for 60 months....traded in 2000 jeep wrangler in fair condition...payment would of been $119/month, but I added the extended warranty. I always keep my cars 6 yrs or longer and end up putting money into them after the normal warranty is up. The extended warranty just gives me ease of mind that I won't have to come up with $1500 at one time...

Elroy, i wouldn't buy extended warranty on Yaris - you ARE wasting $ 1200. Unless you get bored with it - this little appliance will serve you at least 20 years....... Did you finance "doc. fee" and sales tax, too ?

I'll take my chance with the warranty...I tend to keep my vehicles for extended periods of times. Plus I have a 16 yr old son and in a couple years if he wants to buy it, he can have the warranty as well. I've bought plenty of vehicles in my life and never ever have gotten the extended warranty, but everytime, I have to sink at least $1000 or more in them for some sort of repair after the warranty goes out. I drive around 20,000 miles a year. I know Toyota are supposed to last a "lifetime", but I also have known people(my parents and in laws included) with Toyota's to have problems as well. And getting them repaired can be costly. At only $19 more a month, it was well worth the peace of mind, that I'm not going have to borrow some money or take out a loan to get it fixed. Plus like I said, perhaps my son will get the car and not have to deal with either. My previous vehicle was a Jeep Wrangler, I had it 7 yrs, but only had 86k miles on it. Last year around 70k miles, I had to have a new radiator, thermostat, etc replaced. A couple months ago it developed either a power steering leak or master cyclinder leak. One(at least) of the rotors were warped and the A/C had it's own mind of when to work. No telling what all those were going to cost to fix. It's a Jeep and they are great. Some have had worsse luck than me and some have had better luck. I'll take the chance with the warranty.

As far as the financing the doc fee and etc, It depends on how you look at it I guess. They gave me blue book for my jeep ($5000). With that and what we bartered to, ended up being almost $7200 off the price of the Yaris. Plus they "threw" in a spoiler. My dealer also offers 5k, 10k, and 15k service free. They also offer a loaner. We bought a toyota sienna in november for my wife and that dealership(different one), doesn none of that. Not even a loaner.

As far as wasting $1200....I'll let you know in about 5 years if I did.

20,000 miles a year?! wow...I remember my parents were about to buy a truck and it was like a 2004 model with 60k miles on it and the dealer was like "that's normal, the average is 20k a year". I just laughed at him and told my mom he was trying a little too hard to make the sale. but i guess 20k is normal for some people :)

Never heard a dealer say that 20k a year is normal.....especially when you are trading in..they normally stick with the 10-12k a year range...

My Camry has averaged 35K a year....

But I'd say 20K a year is close to normal.

We have a Trailblazer that is rarely (as in once a week) used and it still averages 15,000 a year.

I canceled my extended warranty

I was paying $1980 for an 84 month or 75K warranty. I figure, I won't be In LA so long. I plan on moving to Asia as soon as I get out of my financial rut. However, the toyota financial services rep told me my payment won't go down. It would go toward my principal from now on and I would still be paying $388.88 per month. except not for 72 months any more. less. but I guess the finance manager has not submitted the paperwork yet. since tfs has not received the cancellation yet.

I wonder if the finance manager still wants to hire me. do you guys get that? after you buy the car, the finance manager wants to hire you to sell cars for them? do they do that to everybody?

it's kinda strange , that they want to hire you " to sell the cars for them" because yaris actually is selling itself...... checked the local dealer's lot yesterday ( place is closed on Sundays) and there was only one demo sedan on the lot with a note attached : IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN BUYING NEW YARIS PLEASE SIGN IN TO WAITING LIST - INSIDE, AT THE RECEPTIONIST DESK---------------

yeah...there were 3 LB's on the lot and I don't remember any sedans where I bought mine. And at another place they didn't any and another only had about 3 sedans...

Zero down, no trade in. $263/month at 8.1%. I'm about to refinance as I can no longer stand Wells Fargo's inefficiency, and expect my new APR to be lower than 7%.

well this guy was obviously saying anything he could to sell something. i remember him talking about how roomy the backseat of one of the trucks was...and this was not one of those newer trucks with nice comfy back seats, this one had backseats smaller than those in coupes where you have to be squished up sitting sideways to fit in. the dealer was pretty heavy too, me and my mom were just laughting abotu it as he kept talking about how comfortable it is. some people will do anything
