I have to be honest....I don't lock my car. I always figured that if somebody wanted to get in...it's easy enough (just break the window). Problem solved.

I don't think we have those in central FL, I guess I'll just have to remember not to leave the key in the car then

If you don't have the skills to break into a car to unlock it you should never try. My suggestion is next time look for a spare key lying around like one of the ones pictured below. Then wrap it in a t shirt put it through your passenger window and unlock your car that way. The reason you wrap it in a t shirt is so it does not damage the interior when it goes through.

New window $200
New paintwork $2,000
The look on your face after what you realised what you just did..... Priceless
Hope you have a mastercard cause I don't thing insurance covers stupidity.

Might seem that i'm being harsh, but I hope you've learned your lesson.
I'd prolly break that small quarter window next to the outside mirrors, someone with skinny arms could unlock it... then patch it up temporary and still drive it for a while

Nope, fail. Don't carry a brick. Look for one.

As long as it doesnt leak...who cares? Even if it does just duct tape the seam in the door and use the passanger door to egress/ingress.
Once I went backwards on the ramp going into my shed with the motorcycle. Over it went. In the morning I called the cops to help me pick it up. Oh were they pissed! Then I explained the battery is under the gas tank (BMW) and I was concerned if gas leaked over the battery and it caught fire it would take half the neighborhood with it. (true) So they helped me pick it up. When I told that story on the BMW motorcycle site all cops said "WTF do you think we dont have enough to do without picking up your motorcycle!" Universal Police sentiment.

Body Damage

Sorry to hear that you thrashed your car in a moment of panic. We all make mistakes. One thing you have to think about is if you do a hack job of fixing it then your car will be worth alot less at resale. The gaskest are important, they are what keeps the weather out and you warm on the inside. Yes, this is not going to be cheap if repaired properly, there is a lot of labor involved. I know a lot of people shy away from Macco, but they painted my Rally spoiler for $200.00 and it matches perfectly. They are one of the more resonable body shops. I wish you the best of luck with your repair.
