Help me pic my best pic...

Ok, reason I post this... A local radio station is offering a contest for a car that will be hooked up with over $7000 of stuff from a well reknown shop in town. Were talking nice rims, full sound system, full video headunit, and other goodies.

Now the hard part, I gotta pic 1 picture of my car to submit for the contest. I found 4 pics, and I will need a vote to decide what picture is the best on of my car to enter for the chance to win this awesome prize.

Help me out Yarisworld!

Composition-wise, the last or the first. But I'm going to tell you now that they probably will not appreciate being blurry (edit, I actually think it's just haze instead of blur). I believe Thomas posted a link to how to get your ride into a magazine (I think that can apply to just being chosen for something). I know most of my pictures won't qualify to be chosen for a magazine article.

Well my major issue is, I dont have my old 12MP camera...thats 2 states away. Sooo, all I got is a 5MP that takes crappy pics, I might try and take some new pics tomorrow while at the beach to see if I can get any good ones to come out

hehe, I was stuck with a borrowed 5MP before I got my DSLR. Do you have a tripod? Heck, all I had back then was a table top one, and you know what I did, it's pretty ghetto, but it worked. I took that, along with my S.Tech box, and placed the tripod on the box and snapped away. Tripods does wonders, especially for me. I don't exactly have perfect still hands, I don't even want to show you guys pics I take without a tripod.

None of these pictures are going to win you prizes (sorry).

And a 5mp camera will be as decent as a 12mp camera because you aren't submitting native resolution, but a resized version.

Avoid shutter speeds that are too slow if you are shooting handheld, use a tripod if your shutter speeds are slow. For example, the first image has a 1/8th second shutter speed, a recipe for a blur images. At that kind of shutter speed, not even your 12mp camera can get you a sharp picture.

Pick a beautiful background to place your car into, or do HDR photography, and put in some postprocessing time to give your photograph that "snap". Your car is black on grey wheels, which is actually rather cool. But you have to take care to photograph it, otherwise you could end up with a black blob that hasn't any details.

Wash your car, make sure it is clean and glossy. Get some tire shine on the tires. Get your car looking its best.

#2 is the best, but +1 to what everyone is saying about picture quality.

It's gotta be worth $7000 to get out there and take the best picture you can.

Ok, tripod purchased today, not the best, but it will do for now... Need to get out there and clean the car up on the outside and get a good shot in.

get a better camera.... or have someone take pix for you....

I bet you my 6 megapixel camera takes way better pix than your 12 megapixel camera
it is not the megapixels that make the picture, it is the light sensor, photographer and the settings in the camera..... oh yeah, then there is editing a RAW image

But if your shots are TOO nice, making the car look even better than it already is, it might backfire on you and they might choose a car that's not so nice. No?

find a photographer :)

if you have a few weeks, i say go hit an autocross locally and let a professional shoot your car at the event. cars moving > cars sitting still

I will definately agree with PK on this one... the pics you have taken are great attempt with the 5mp camera... but I will seriously recommend you to get either a better camera or a good photographer...

I want to see you win that 7000 prize man... keep trying...

on the other hand, thanks PK for pointing out the Rule of Thirds... I never knew about something like that (googling it was the first thing I did after reading it)
