150HP with Blitz?

Hey guys,

I'm planning on buying the Blitz supercharger sometime around the starting of next year.
I'm wondering if I can get up to 150 WHP (or close to it) with the blitz supercharger.
My current setup is WR secret weapon intake, 1zz TB, DC sports header, custom 2.5 inch mandrel bent cat-back midpipe with secondary cat delete, and a Micro image light crank pulley.

I've been wondering if I get a port and polish on the head or the OEM TB (which i'll have to use for the blitz) if it will make better power. Or what other things I might be able to do?

The most i've heard from someone getting from the blitz is 130WHP, so if that's the limit, I can live with that.

Any suggestions?

130 is the typical with the stock engine management. With the 6 psi limit of the Blitz, the theoretical limit of gain for a bone stock Yaris would be 138 HP (based on 98 HP stock). With your mods, which should already yield about 10 HP over stock, you could theoretically see 152 HP.

The formula for determining HP gain from boost is:
Pressure ratio (PR) = (14.7+boost)/14.7
Density ratio (DR) = PR*(460+T-inlet)/(460+T-oulet)
Boosted HP = NA (horsepower) * DR

That's actually dead on.
I do have about 10 HP over stock right now.

Do you think i'll need 1zz injectors? I've heard a lot of people talk about them with the Blitz.

Similar setup as you with most notable exception of the 1zz TB, 136.2 whp. Keep in mind that dynos are somewhat subjective and no two will read the same.

I would recommend 1ZZ injectors and a tunable piggyback fuel controller (i.e. an AEM FIC, instead of the Blitz non-tunable fuel controller that comes with it kit).

I've been looking at peter's and barber's SC'd builds and their numbers were pretty good.
I was debating on going turbo, but since my yaris is my DD, i'd want something reliable and practical.
I've also got a lightweight flywheel sitting in the garage, just waiting on a clutch and LSD to go with it so I only have to tear the transmission apart once, i'm not sure how those will affect the SC'd performance.

Anything lightweight and rotational (pulley, flywheel) will not affect whp gains. They only allow the engine to reach higher rpms quicker.

...and I'd add that the engine also loses higher rpms quicker. That can be an advantage in shifting gears faster when racing.

With the AFe short ram intake I was running lean until I installed 1zz injectors.

Agreed: 1ZZ injectors. Green are working fine for me, I've heard grey are overkill (I think LT Noogie tried them). If you have something that can read AFR down to 8:1 or so, use that. If you don't, then use a scanguage to watch your open loop AFRs and make sure they hit 12:1 (that's as low as the stock wideband goes) right away. If you don't have access to either of those, it's probably not the end of the world--but running lean is catastrophic for our little wheezer.

Intake/2.25" exhaust versus intake, header, 2.25" exhaust, 1zz injectors

106whp/107wtq vs 135whp/130wtq

EDIT: oops, I see weeyari linked my post...

Through a lot of collaborative efforts with Scott and my tuner we have actually been able to determine a LOT about what you can expect from the stock fuel system and 1zz injectors. Just installing the injectors alone will give you a little more fuel, but also bumping up the FP will make a big difference too. I would not go any larger than 1zz injectors for a reliable build as you will just be wasting a lot of fuel and money. You have to decide which mentality you are going to take:

1) all I care about is numbers
2) all I care about is getting to whatever speeds I want in the shortest time
3) I really want to have the most fun that I can for the least amount of cash for the longest time

One thing to remember is that the 1zz injectors aren't really that much larger than stock. There are tons of folks out there that think throwing bigger injectors are the cure for adding more power. No matter how you slice it for every pound of boost you should be going up 1psi of fuel pressure. With a stock regulator at a static 43/44 you leave power on the table as well as lose longevity of the motor. Sure, some may argue that 6psi of SC boost isn't enough to really matter, but it does. It is kind of like having a turbo with no additional fuel management and running 3-5psi. Sure, you can do it, but if you are going to make the investment why leave so much on the table and yet deal with the possible risks.

P.S. > I get asked all of the time what numbers I am putting down. Honestly I could care less as long as I get the results I want to the pavement, have fun, and at least have some semblance of not sitting in a gas station every other day. Numbers are numbers...just that. Have you been in a 150hp Yaris yet? if you haven't really how do you know what you truly want. You could very well be happy with a 130hp build or 150 may not give you the effect you are looking for. Lastly, different dyno chassis provide different numbers as well as different results depending on environmental variables. Just food for thought.

Ok, now it makes sense. I only made 111whp normally aspirated and was wondering what I was doing wrong!

One of the best things I've read on a forum in a very long time.

One of my CRXs makes 170bhp, another one makes 185bhp. Both are a blast to drive.

My little yaris, can be fun, but I know an additional 20 HP will make it that much more so!

Lastly, my little civic makes *only* about 105hp, but can kick the other's butts easily on a short technical course, or any autoX course. (It's better built suspension set-up)
