Old car guy with new car question

Will premium gas effect my 13 yaris negatively?
Are there any warnings for this car and e85 gasoline?

It may sound like an obvious question but I've never owned anything WITHOUT a carburetor. This is a whole new world for an old mechanic. I always ran premium in my 1977 280z and all of my 1980s Corollas because of a slight improvement in gas mileage hand slightly reduce wear and tear on motor parts.

The slight improvement is probably due to the lack of ethanol in the fuel. But I doubt its not financially economic to run premium fuel on the Yaris.

Don't put e85 in there... The engine isn't made for it.

Premium tends to leave deposits on the pistons etc from the additives. Some of these aren't great, but not critical. If you are used to premium, and want to continue to run it, go for it. But I'd also suggest trying it on 87 for a while and see if it's a big enough difference to justify the cost. Toyota isn't very aggressive with their timing control, so you won't notice too much of a difference in fuels (whereas in a GM you will notice almost immediately.).

Welcome to the modern world of EFI ;) I've spent a lot of years messing with carbs and I do not miss them at all.

Cheers.

My 2015 Yaris has a bold warning label on the inside gas hatch area to NOT use e85 fuel in this vehicle. Since all Yaris sold in the USA have used the same tried-and-true engine, that applies to 2007-2014 versions of the Yaris as well.

And 1999-2005 echos as well. Same engine 17 years.
