WHite Powder on Motor
Hey guys..
Has anyone noticed this white powder stuff on the motor, I mainly find it near the top of the block and the valve cover. It is not much, just like a light dusting; it might be some left over possible casting stuff Anyone know of a good engine cleaner that is for aluminum engines?? Thanks guys.. |

Yeah, it's normal.
The aluminum alloy castings used in automotive engines and other componets can look a bit nasty after a while after the elements get to it. |

The white powdery corrosion is all over the aluminum head and block of my 1NZ-FE. They just put decorative covers over it so you don't see it much.

LOL... True!.... It’s not the water pump, its corrosion as noted by Hilton...
I wouldn’t have thought the aluminum used by Toyota would be developing corrosion so soon... I have a 06 Odyssey, and owned a 01V6 Accord and 93 CIvicSi way back and all the Hondas also had aluminum heads and block and they never developed such corrosion powder.. (in my cases)... Has anyone seen an engine cleaner that is geared towards aluminum? |

I have a frend who just bought a '97 Honda (very cheap....for comuting) with a aluminum valve cover.
The cover was so coroded and pitted that he wantred to replace it. I suggested he paint it instead and after some prep work, that's exactly what he did. So, Toyota is not the only car that suffers from this (universial?) problem. |

My 1998 Mercury Villager (a "clunker" I don't plan to trade) has aluminum heads and manifold on its Nissan VG30E engine. They still look bright. Different alloys and/or surface treatments. Might want to look into aluminum wheel cleaners. |
