Replaced PCV today

The car has about 72,000 miles. I like to change them prophylactically in my cars at the 60,000-70,000 mark.
That sucker was hard to unscrew, but looked OK with small amount of varnish and nicely rattling ball.
I put a new one ($7 from dealership) with antiziese on the threads.
How often do you change yours? Did I waste my $7?

They are a very simple device, so cleaning every once in a blue moon is usually sufficient. You probably saved more than $7 worth of cleaning labor though.

Huh Im surprised it wasn't $70 so I guess you did OK.

But I wouldn't be changing anything unless it was broke, the OM said it was time to change it, or CT Scott told me to...

I actually just pulled thepcv out from the wifes car. 268k km.. original pcv. shook it and functions. sprayed it out and put it back in. More than likely will put in a catch can and remove the pcv just for fun to see how much oil it might pull.

I have had a look into mine's (55Mm) intake manifold and theres just a notion of a thin oil film inside.
Nothing compared to the Blackwater Horizon filter box of a Golf 4 I've seen some months ago
