Front led Turn Signals
I have an 08 hatchback and I want to look for some led turn signals. I couldn't find any on ebay. Anyone know where to get some for a decent price? Thanks.

decent price, i dunno. but the stealership here does sell those as an add on accessory, some local auto accessory shops do and are cheaper but usually in chrome rather than paintable black abs plastic.
i should say that those on ebay (if you ever find one) are the same if they are accessory as compared to OEM side mirror assembly replacement--they stick onto your existing covers, and they don't look good. they look like your mirror housing turned uber-fat. lol any country but japan would be a good place to look imports from, if you're only after the cover (with turn signal, not LED though replaceable with) and not the entire assembly (power adjust AND power retract). otherwise, i believe philippines is the only big market of these yarises that are LHD. |

Are these difficult to install? Looks like you need some sort of unit to make flashers work? What's up with that?

Because LED does not put the electrical load as incandescent bulb does, hence you will flash double the speed, indicating a dead bulb.
You could either put a resistor (CTScott probably can tell you which one you need), but i went with this when i was using LED bulbs as turn signals.. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/8-Pin-LED-Fla...0cc3c1&vxp=mtr |

just realized my response to this thread was about side mirror turn signals.
anyway, yes LEDs don't provide enough load on the circuit, and for a circuit designed to flash faster when there's a busted bulb (lower load/resistance read by the flasher relay), then you'll need a resistor to have the flasher relay realize there's no busted bulb. |

I just need one of those, and I can install LEDs all over the car? Also, the website said something about not using LEDs in the headlight housing?

My parking lights in the "headlight housing" have had LEDS for years. No issues.

What is the issue? The halogen headlight is too hot and hurts the LEDs? What if I just made the headlights and everything LED? LEDs are cool to the touch, right?

the issue is not the heat.. it's the load the put on the circuit is not the same as standard light bulbs, hence you will get a fast flash when using your flashers. to fix this, you will need to either put a resistor on the circuit OR get one of those LED flasher relay off ebay. |

Okay, I get that part but why do they say don't use them in headlight housings? What causes them to burn out so quickly?

Regular 4pin LEDs are sensitive to heat. Your halogen bulbs produce quite a bit of heat which will reduce the life span of the LEDs.
LEDs are not meant to run at hot temperatures. If you ever look at any of the LED lights on cars and those lights sold at HomeDepo, they all have massive heat sinks. |

What if I replaced the halogen headlights with LEDs too?

TBH you'll have to try and see for yourself, but LED headlight bulbs are not very bright. some are a bit brighter than halogen, some are less bright, but none have been exceptionally bright (except for OEM ones like Audi r8 lights).
deathwisher is right, heat shortens the LEDs' life span. actually in the sedan it doesnt double as a flasher, the park light and flasher just happens to be side by side in the same contour under the main headlight. either way, the first issue with the flasher is actually the load on the circuit, thus the fast flashing. In a nutshell, you are free to put LEDs and it WILL work. the 1st and more immediate question is the fast blinking--so you'll need to add the resistor that has been mentioned. the 2nd and not necessarilly a cause for concern is the lifespan. Wait, sh!t is about to get serious!
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/2013-...373619269.html I bet there are also some which fit into the Yaris. Thanks to some retarded moronic laws, these are sadly not street legal here in borning ol' germany. The ticket I'm risking by using them would be about 60$ iirc |
