Let's keep in mind that you wiil still need a pliots license to fly one.

Personally, I don't see much of a market for them other than some very rich, ecentric pilots. The vast majority of pilots are very level headed. Even though they may be intrigued by the idea of a flying car, I don't think too many would actually buy such a thing

Of course you do and you also need to be at an airport.

The pupose of a flying car is you would land at airport and drive off to wherever you would want to go.
Then to fly again you have to drive to an airport.

A flying car is just a rich person's toy..... a very expensive novelty that is neither a great car or a great aircraft.
Both are compromised in combining the two.

That cocept has been around since the '40's and never found a market.
The newer aircraft simply use new matrerials and technologys but, it's the same old concept.
You still have to tow it to an airport.

Let's no loose sight of the fact that any aircraft comes under the rule of the FAA, at least in the US.
Most other indusrialized countries have simular governing bodies that will/do dictate an aircraf/flying car use,

Bottom line, you still have to be an acomplish pilot to fly one of them if you plan to stay alive!
They are not some "low and slow" flyers like some ultralights are.

you guys are all thinking about places with high population density and lots of air traffic. there are plenty of places that are NOT like that.

Further, small helicopters fly all over our airspace, and all they do is look around for other traffic and fly within their restricted height limits. Collisions are extremely rare.

Helicopters fly under somewhat differnt rules as far as altitudes and even locations is some ares.
Most of the helicopters you are refering to are clasified as emergengy aircraft and are permitted to go when they they are needed for the most part.

Granted in some sparcely poulated areas, you can fly mostly as you like provided you follow all FAA rules. However all poulated areas have very strict rules to follow for private aircraft.

As far as a fying car, the FAA has to first issues a cirtificate of airworthyness and then clasify the aircraft to dictate its use.

^ I have ridden in a privately owned small helicopter all over the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains. The only restriction was in altitude over populated areas, other than that we could go wherever we wanted. We even landed in the riverbed next to the 118 freeway. We did not break any rules. It is not an emergency aircraft.

All of that was to make a point that there could be applications where flying cars make sense.

As I stated.......... you had restructions on altitude and you could not land/take off wherever you wanted. Your pilot knew the flight rules and did not land where prohibited.

Anyway, a helicoptor and a flying car would be two totally different classifacations of aircraft with different flight rules, etc.
