Toyota Yaris Spedometer Accuracy? - Toyota Yaris Forums

Sorry I am new to this forum and I am short on time so I couldn't search and figured this was an easier way to find an answer. I was given a 2009 Yaris sedan with 13k miles (thank you grandpa) and I love driving it but the middle dashboard confuses me. How accurate is it if viewed from my driver side angle? Did they change anything to where the speed you see is accurate?

There is some parallax error when viewing it from an angle, but there are other things that will have a much greater impact on accuracy. Tire size is the number one thing that I can think of. There are several different OEM diameters, all in the 23-24" range, but the difference in speedometer vs actual is well within an acceptable margin at most speeds.

For example, my 205/50r15s show about 70 on the speedo but 67 on my GPS. From the passenger side it looks like 68-ish, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Check it against a gps. Driving on a straight level road the gps should be very accurate, as long as you are driving out in the open, not up against any hills. I'm sure they took the parallax error into account when they designed that center console.
