Lower control arm bolt replacement
Hi
Does anyone have a experience on how to get the vertical bolt out of the lower control arm (driver side) that has the head snapped off. It's on a 2007 Yaris hatchback. Something tells me it's going to be a pain! Any short cuts/advice would be greatly appreciated.

use the search function at there is a whole thread on this topic.
However to answer your Q the easiest way it seems to remove a snapped head is to weld a nut onto the bolt and then unscrew from the nut. If there is not enough of the bolt showing to weld the nut then you can try a large easy out. The other way is to remove the sub frame which would be more work. If you don't have a welder than drive carefully to a shop and get them to weld a bolt on and remove it, shouldn't cost much. |

In the long thread about the potential issue with them I show some pictures of how I dealt with welding to one. The problem is that you have to drop the whole sub frame (the black plate) to get to the snapped off bolt.
Toyota did issue the warranty extension for this, so if you are under 100k, you might want to let them fix it.

I replaced mine last spring and covered the new bolts on grease. I'll be checking them this spring to see how they look. If they're fine then I'll go to every 2 years to check them. |
