Thumbs up New used oil analysis for '08 sedan with SHELL syn 5w-20 and AC Delco PF 1233 oil ..

filter . The AC Delco PF1233 oil filter was used for back to back oil intervals . Always use Toyota air filter . Oil and oil filter in use from 10/13/12 > 2/7/13 . There were 56,368 miles on the engine when sample was took . Previous oil was SHELL synthetic 5w-30 with the AC Delco filter . The SHELL is $3.33 a quart and the PF 1233 is $4 . Looks like a keeper .

Thanks . The U.O.A.(s) make us feel confident since the head gasket replacement . Will get another U.O.A. in a year or so . Plan to get a sample from the '11 FIT soon . That has 21,000+ miles and uses 0w-20 . It's Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 . Would try a 0w-20 synthetic ( Platinum or Amsoil ) in the the Yaris if not for the Toyota Platinum warranty ( 8yr. / 125,00 miles ) . Would extend the intervals to 7,500 or 10,000 miles like that of the FIT with the 1.5 ltr..

I am curious on whether or not each time you change the oil/filter combos you are trying you are also performing an engine flush to ensure that you have no residue from the previous oils?

What does the warranty have to do with making that change? Using any lubricant in a vehicle is perfectly fine and cannot void your warranty as long as it meets API standard which both of those do

No flushing . The warranty calls for 6 months or 5,000 miles . Sticking to it .

Have a couple of the Toyota 90915-YZZF2 oil filters and installed one . It's weeping oil as a few others did in the past . The AC Delcos didn't . May remove it and replace it with the AC Delco or Puraolator One and top off the oil .

I see you made the jump for 30 to 20 weight after all. Looks like a great analysis.

I just used up the last of my dino oil and I'm poised to make the switch to synth at about 65k miles. Waited this long because I had several cases of Formula Shell that I had bought at about .$50-.80/qt. Pretty hard to beat that. I'm still getting basically sticker as far as mpg. In the mean-time, I've been picking up cases of Mobile 1 5w-30 whenever I found a great deal. But, now that I'm ready to switch over I see that the trend is toward 20w now. Sounds like you have become a believer. I'm in the Great Lakes region, so would be facing similar weather. Maybe I'll see if I can swap my 30 wt for 20 wt.

Great price on SHELL ( conventional ? ) . Thanks , was impressed with the results . Would like the IRON to be a bit lower . So , going back to the synthetic 5w-30 for next 2 oil intervals to see if the IRON dips a bit . Will likely use Pennzoil Ultra 5w-30 for next O.C. and the 2nd could be ULTRA or SHELL synthetic 5w-30 . Then possibly get another U.O.A. after those . That'll likely be sometime in spring 2014 . Let us know how the SHELL performs for you . Their conventional is good . Used the 5w-30 a few times in the youth of the YARIS ( 20,000+ mis. ) .
